Best Time To Visit Vienna

Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination

The best time to visit Vienna remains November through March, i.e. the winter season. Winter is ideal for exploring museums, attending opera performances, and shopping in Christmas markets in Vienna, the capital of Austria. The city has a typical dry continental climate with hot summers and cold winters.

There is nothing bad about the weather of Vienna in spring and fall, but it's no match against the glories of Vienna in winter and summer. One big advantage to visit Vienna at this time is that it is relatively empty of tourists. Therefore, travelers will get a good deal on accommodation.

Autumn is the best season to explore glorious vineyards in Vienna. Spring is another popular time for those looking for mild weather and wants to avoid long queues outside popular attractions. Let's take a season-wise detailed look at the best time to go to Vienna below:

April-May

Average daytime temperature in Vienna rises after the end of winter. Spring is the best time to visit Vienna for holiday as the weather is pleasant and days are longer, and there are fewer crowds and room rates are more affordable.

June-August

The most popular season is summer and many consider it as the best season to visit Vienna. The weather between July and August is the warmest and sunniest, but along with this highest room rents and crowds. Schools have a break at this time and most people prefer this time to visit Vienna with family

September-October

After the humid and busy summer months, tourist crowds in Vienna return to normal. Hotel rates come down and as do the flight tickets. It’s the ideal season to explore Austria for budget travelers.

November-March

Winter is also the best time to visit Vienna for honeymoon; the weather will be cold and the city will be full of beautiful lights and all of the other things that come with a Viennese Christmas. Vienna in December is a popular place to visit in Europe for honeymooners due to snowfall. Snowfall in Vienna brings temperatures well below 0 degrees.

Climate in Vienna

Summer Season in Vienna

Summer months start from June to August. This is the peak tourist time in Vienna. Larger local population disappears to summer residences and there are more rooms to stay. That is an advantage. Apart from good weather, the summer also brings street culture to life. Vienna’s Municipal authorities do great work of brightening up the city with flowers. As the school closes this time, the city will be crowded and everybody prefers summer as the best time to visit Vienna with family.

Monsoon Season in Vienna

November will be the rainiest month. Vienna gets 600mm rain every year, but there tends to be more of the short, sharp thunderstorms rather than the constant drizzle.

Winter Season in Vienna

Vienna winter has the perfect winter like in Fairytale. The Christmas season will be beautiful as there will be snow on the ground, crisp night air, candlelight, and decorations. It gets bitterly cold; so bring warm clothes and sturdy boots if you plan to go around on foot. The snow on street can get mucky and a combination of brown slush. Couples will enjoy winter season even though there will be a bit of a chill in the air. The coldest months are December to January.  It is a perfect romantic getaway. Winter season is the best time to visit Vienna for honeymoon. Keep in mind that there are only two hours of sunshine per day in Vienna in November and light rainfall is common.

    • Trip to Europe

Me and my wife planned 11 days trip to France and Italy during mid Feb'19. To say that our trip planner Siddhant and his team put together the experience of a lifetime for us, still somehow seems an understatement! When we started planning this trip, we spoke to about two to three different travel planners and while almost all of them were thorough and impressive in their own ways, Siddhant was the one who provided itinerary suggestions which were real time and exactly what we were looking for. Siddhant himself is quite familiar with various destinations across Europe and hence his expertise helped us in planning a wonderful trip. We started our trip from Paris. We stayed in Paris for three days and covered many known places like Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Notre Dame etc. We also did cruise ride and even visited Indian street in Paris, named Gare du Nord, which had every Indian thing available. From Paris we travelled to Venice and stayed there for two days. Our stay was booked on the canal, which gave an edge to the whole trip. We visited beautiful islands in Venice like Murano, Burano and Torcello. We also enjoyed the scenic beauty of Venice by foot. Did Gandora ride, which was one of the lifetime experience. In Venice we did some shopping too and relished mouth watering handmade chocolates too. From there we travelled to Florence and stayed there for two days. Florence is a perfect place to be discovered on foot, it has very fine and breathtaking architecture. We also did a one day Tuscany tour where we covered Vienna, Siena, vine tasting etc. We were lucky enough to locate and dine in Indian Restaurants in Florence. From Florence we visited our last stop Rome. We stayed in Rome for 3 days and were able to see some lovely places like Colosseum, Vatican City, Fountain Triveni etc. Siddhant helped us in planning everything, right from perfect commute to choosing proper stay location so that we could easily travel to/from station by foot. He also helped us in figuring out stay duration at each place and also helped us in deciding right flight/train timings so we don’t end up wasting a day in just commuting. It’s so important to plan things right when you are travelling by yourself (no group). It turned out to be the most amazing and memorable trip of our lives. And we intend to book our future trips with Siddhant and his team. Thank you Team Duniya Safari :)

    • Trip to Europe

"Travel with no regrets" is what i would like to say before planning on to any trip. So i had booked a 9 Nights and 10 Days customised package to Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice) and Austria (Vienna). Well where do i start from right from airport pick, the hotel bookings, Places recommended, City tours, train travel to different cities and drop-off at the airport everything was so smooth with Street Romeo Travel planner ; they also are always there to help you if you have any queries during the trip too without any issues. Also the really good part was the pickup and drop off at the airport cause we were provided with chauffeur driven Mercedes E class cars which is usually not common and majority of the travel agents don't provide & this had not cost us extra at all everything was well within the budget estimate provided to us. I came across Street Romeo Travel planner through Travel Triangle, and they were the one who had given me the best budget for the trip so with no questions asked we went ahead with them. Great Job Team Street Romeo Travel Planner. Keep it up!! Cheers.

It was a nice trip, loved the beauty of Prague and Budapest. Should have planned one more day in Prague than Vienna. Thanks a lot Rohit and Prashant for all your help and guidance. Both of them were always available whenever we needed them. Also, due to flight delay our airport pickup was missed and we booked taxi by ourself but they provided us the refund. Overall, nice trip and good experience from travel triangle.

The tour was good and well coordinated including staying in hotels, transport and other facilities. The experience of Hop on & Hop off buses both in Vienna and London were good. Vishal Thakur's coordination during our trip was commendable. His help in searching out transport to reach to Crystal world in Innsbruck and his 24 hours availability on phone was really helpful.

    • Trip to Europe

My tour of Munich, Vienna, Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam was very well organized by Memorable Vacations Holidays. They took care of all the hotel, flight and train bookings including all the pickups. The sight-seeing which they had arranged was also very good. In this regard, I would like to express my gratitude for all the help extended by Pratik and everyone else at Memorable Vacations. They were always there to help me out during the entire journey starting from the initial planning until the very end of the tour.

    • Trip to Europe

Overall it was an excellent tour of Vienna, Budapest and Prague. Some point of improvement for the agent or things which can be taken care by new travelers... 1. Searching for cab driver after landing at the Vienna airport was tough. 2.Rooms of Ramada encore in Vienna and IBIS in Budapest were very small. 3. There was no electric water heating machine ( used for tea/coffee) in IBIS-Budapest and Fortuna west-Prague, so it was little problem for us. 4. Fortune-West hotel in Prague was far away from the main city. 5.We should have been informed that exchange price in India is best as compared to European countries. Excellent response time, proactive and very professional. Special Appreciation to Agent- Daman, who designed my entire itinerary and made all the bookings
