It is not very well connected with the rest of the country. The closest airport and railway station are both nearer to Siliguri than to Jalpaiguri. The nearest railway station is New Jalpaiguri or NJP, which is located in the heart of Siliguri. However, when it comes to Bhutan, Jalpaiguri is one of the closest cities to the country. Taking the roadway is the most convenient form of travel for going from NJP to Bhutan. Here is a brief explanation of how to reach Bhutan from New Jalpaiguri or the Jalpaiguri town via various transport modes.

By Air: The nearest airport to Jalpaiguri is the Bagdogra airport close to Siliguri. It takes an hour and a half to reach Bagdogra from Jalpaiguri, from where Druk Air and Bhutan Airlines fly flights to Paro Airport in Bhutan twice every week. Paro is Bhutan main airport and the only international airport the country has. The flight duration is around 2 hours and 30 minutes approximately.

By Road: Taking the roadway is the best option to avail of. Jalpaiguri to Bhutan border distanc is 496 kilometers, and the road via NH27 is a smooth ride. It does not take longer than 2 hours and 45 minutes to go from Jalpaiguri to Bhutan border at Phuentsholing, which is called Jaigaon on this side of the border. There are buses and rented car service from the station of New Jalpaiguri to Bhutan that one can avail.

By Rail: Although there is no direct railway line from Jalpaiguri to Bhutan, one can take a train from NJP station to Hasimara, from where the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border is only 17 kilometers. The visitors have to show their identity documents at the border, and rented cars have to take permissions for entering the country. However, Indian citizens do not need a visa to enter Bhutan, but only an identity document, preferably passport or voter’s ID.

Naveen's 6 days trip to Bhutan

They assisted me from the get go. I travelled with a 16 month old baby, and they supported me in every step of the way. I even forgot a bag at my last hotel, they send it to me over mail. I cant thank them enough for this. Heartfelt thanks for an awesome trip to Gyam and his whole team. Regards, NaveenK and Family.

Priya's 5 days trip to Bhutan

Bhutan Trip with Bhutan Red Rhobes Destination We had a wonderful experience with Bhutan Red Rhobes Destination. Mr. Subhash planned our Bhutan trip seamlessly, and the hotel arrangements were just as we had hoped for — clean, comfortable, and well located especially at Paro. Bhutan is breathtakingly beautiful — lush, green, and peaceful with genuinely warm and kind people. The trek to Tiger’s Nest Monastery is a must-do — challenging but absolutely worth it for the views and the experience. The Paro River was another highlight — so pristine and serene. A special mention to Mr. Subhash, who took the time to personally meet us at our hotel and ensured everything was in order. It was lovely meeting him in person. Highly recommended for anyone planning a trip to Bhutan!

Bobby's 4 days trip to Bhutan

I had specifically asked for 4 star properties and was quoted amount for the same. Lemon Tree thimpu is a 3 star property as per google and other major websites and Lemon Tree manager also said it is a 3 star property. Valley Travels passes it off as a 4 star Property. In Paro we were changed from Tashi Namgay, a 4 star property to tiger's Nest at the last minute. Tiger's Nest is a very old Property without proper plumbing and very far off from Airport as well as city center.

Ketan's 6 days trip to Bhutan

It was a good experience with BINC Bhutan. They provided Good hotels with upgrades wherever possible. All good places were recommended and covered. Very effective co-ordination by BINC team which made the visit very smooth and hassle-free. Some facts not in control of the agents - No role of the compulsory guide-not worth, most of the places have high entry fees (mostly not worth keeping in mind the place). Someone visited Sikkim/North-East may find Bhutan similar to that, so not all places are worth-visiting. Overall good experience. I recommend BINC.
