Best Time To Visit Paro
Plan your trip during best season to experience the best of this stunning destination
The historic town of Paro, situated an hour and a half’s drive from the capital Thimphu, is known for having Bhutan’s one and only international airport. Because of that, the town of Paro gets a lot of footfall every year. Situated on the banks of Paro Chhu River, it is home to numerous ancient Buddhist monasteries, dzongs and temples and it is not just a stepping stone for travelling to Thimphu or other places. Paro is very much a tourist destination itself. So the question is – which is the best time to visit Paro. The spring and the autumn seasons are the best to visit anywhere in Bhutan. But unlike the northern, more mountainous parts, winters do not become extremely chilly. On the other hand, most of the summers are covered in the rain from the monsoons, which cause hindrance in the outdoor activities.
Here is a brief detail of Paro weather and Paro temperature for all the seasons.

Paro climate during this time is warm and very pleasant for outdoor trips like monastery visits, trekking and picnicking.
Monsoon Season in Paro
Like the rest of the subcontinent, Bhutan faces southwest monsoons during the months of June to July. The relentless showers ensure a humid climate till mid-September at the very least. Monsoons in the mountains are not a very safe bet. There can be landslides and road blockages from time to time, making transportation quite difficult. However, once the clouds go away, the months of October and November are ideal for a visit. Paro Bhutan weather during these two months is the most pleasant. The skies go back to being the blue of the spring; while the rivers, freshly fed by the rains are ferocious enough for a super-exciting session of water rafting or kayaking. With an average temperature of 25°C in September, visitors can enjoy all the outdoor excursions without any fear once again. All the trekking routes are safe, and the climate is brilliant as well.
Winter Season in Paro
Those who can tolerate slightly freezing climate, winters should not be a problem in Paro. Because of its position as a valley and proximity to the river, the wind might feel chillier than usual. But still, Paro weather in December and November gets an average minimum temperature of -1°C only. The only problem of travelling in Paro in December is the visibility. There are sudden fogs and lots of mists which lower the visibility of transportation. Activities like hiking and biking become difficult as well. Snowfall is not really common here, which makes sure that travelling in winter in Paro is not completely off the table.
