Best Season to Visit Costa Rica

The dry season is the high season. Rains are rare during this time of the year, even in the rainforests on the Caribbean side of the country. Each month only sees a maximum of 2-3 days of rainfall. The rest of the month is sunny, dry, and pleasant. While it’s freezing cold and snowing in most places, the warm tropical beaches of Costa Rica appeal to most tourists. Due to Arctic sea storms, the waves are also more prominent, making it a perfect time to surf. One downside of visiting Costa Rica during peak season is the increased crowds. If you want to avoid enormous swarms of tourists, steer clear of the time between Christmas and the first two weeks of January.

The rainy season is not the best time of year to visit Costa Rica. It rains on an average of 15 to 20 days each month. Travel can become difficult as some areas remain extremely wet during this time, including the Atlantic slopes, the northeast, the southwest, and the Oya Peninsula. Many lodges and businesses are also shut down in September and October. The local tourism industry also calls this time of the year the Green Season in Costa Rica. Many people prefer to go during this time too. The prices are halved, crowds are gone, and the rainforests are lush green and budding into bucolic sweetness.

Due to heavy rains, temperatures drop slightly from May to November. Therefore, the rainy season is also known as the winter season in Costa Rica. The country is brimming with greenery, and life has sprung fresh. The terrain is perfect for exploration, hiking, and wildlife spotting. Since this is the off-season, you’ll see fewer tourists and cheaper accommodations, which means a quiet, serene, and relatively inexpensive trip. The weather is coolest from November to January.
