There are a total of three trains that operate between Shimla and Solan which are Shimla Himalayan Queen which takes around 2 hours 40 minutes, Shimla Kalka Passenger which takes around 3 hours, and Shimla Kalka Express which takes around 2 hours 40 minutes.

Shimla to Solan By Road: Shimla to Solan distance by road is around 45 km and it is best to take a taxi or a bus to cover this distance in just 1.5 hours. Several Government buses run from Shimla to Solan and also private taxis for the comfort of the travelers.

By Bus: Bus is another convenient way to travel to Solan from Shimla. Buses run by Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) run on a daily basis and take around 1 hour 15 mins to reach Solan from Shimla. The bus fare ranges from 80 INR to 90 INR for a non-ac seater bus. The pickup point of these buses in Shimla is Shimla ISBT Tutikandi which directly takes you to Solan.

By Car: If you are traveling with family and want a comfortable ride then hiring a taxi to reach Solan from Shimla is the best means of transport for you. The journey takes 1 to 1.5 hours depending on your stoppage points. The taxi will cost you somewhere between 1500 INR to 2000 INR.
