How to Reach Mauritius from India

Wondering how to go to Mauritius?

Mauritius is an island nation in the Indian Ocean. It is famous for beaches, lagoons, and reefs. Rainforests, waterfalls, hiking trails and wildlife like flying fox together make the country one major tourist destination. Grand Baie located in Rivère du Rempart district has many beaches. It is famous for its lively nightlife and great shopping centers. Le Morne is a peninsula in the country which preserves the history and identity of Mauritius. The country has more tourist destinations which are beautiful to watch and explore.

Being an island country, the only viable way to reach Mauritius is by taking a flight or boarding a cruise. Flights to Mauritius land at the Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport, which is about 50 km from the capital city of Port Louis. Read here about how to reach Mauritius from India via various modes of travel.

By Air

There are only two airports in Mauritius. Sir Gaëtan Duval Airport is situated in Plaine Corail on Rodrigues. The second Airport is Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport. Those wondering how to reach Mauritius from Delhi or Mumbai should know that SSR Airport is well connected via domestic and international flights. Emirates, Swiss, China Eastern flights, Air India, Meridiana, Malaysia, Euro wings, Singapore airlines are some of the international airlines with connectivity to these airports.

By Train

Being an island nation, Mauritius doesn’t have any rail connectivity with the rest of the world. Traveling to Mauritius by air is the most convenient option taken by families and honeymooners.

By Road

Land transport here includes bus, taxi and cars. The bus network is large in the country, spread across the entire island. There are 2 kinds of buses in Mauritius standard and express. Express buses are air conditioned buses and have fewer stops on each route. The buses run between 5:30 am and 8 pm. On the countryside, which is less developed, timings are shorter and less reliable. Travelers may have to change a bus in order to reach their destination. It takes 80 minutes to reach Port Louis from the SSR Airport. Buses available from the airport are 09, 10, and 198.

Taxi is also easily available on the island but are more expensive. One can take any of the two buses. Fare of express bus is a bit higher as it is air conditioned and faster than the standard bus.
