Dalhousie Dharamshala Honeymoon Package Overview: 4D/3N
Booked through TravelTriangle's network of verified local Himachal agents. TravelTriangle holds a 4.1 out of 5 average from 591 verified traveller reviews across its Himachal honeymoon trips. Every plan on this page is customisable, and one trip planner stays with you from your first quote to the day you get home.
This is the honeymoon plan for couples who want two hill stations in one short trip instead of one. You get two nights in quiet, pine-covered Dalhousie and one in Dharamshala, the seat of the Dalai Lama, with the Khajjiar meadow, a candlelight dinner and your room decorated for the two of you already built in. It is an easy, budget-friendly first honeymoon: short drives, real leisure time, and no long treks or altitude to worry about. If you are short on days or watching the budget, this 3 nights and 4 days route covers the best of both towns without rushing.

Best time to visit for couples
Dalhousie and Dharamshala are comfortable most of the year, so the right month comes down to the mood you want. Clear mountain days and easy sightseeing come in spring and autumn. Snow lovers should aim for deep winter, and anyone chasing the lowest price can take the monsoon with a little planning.
| Season | Weather for couples | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| March to June | Pleasant days around 15 to 30 C, clear skies, warm evenings | The all-round honeymoon window. Book early for the May and June peak. |
| July to September | Monsoon, green hills, wet and misty | Lowest prices, but keep a buffer day for the odd road delay. |
| October to November | Crisp, clear, cool nights | Thin crowds and sharp mountain views. Great for a quiet trip. |
| December to February | Cold, chance of snow in Dalhousie and Khajjiar | Romantic if you want snow. A few higher roads can be affected. |

Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive at Pathankot and transfer to Dalhousie
Your trip starts at Chakki Bank railway station in Pathankot, where our representative meets you and puts you in your private cab. The drive up to Dalhousie is about 83 km and takes close to 2 hours 20 minutes, climbing steadily through pine forest until the town opens out at around 2,000 m. Check in, drop your bags, and keep the rest of the day light. Most couples use the free evening for a slow walk along the Mall Road or Subhash Baoli, or simply settle into the honeymoon room. Dinner is at the hotel, and you stay overnight in Dalhousie.
Meals: dinner. Overnight: Dalhousie.
Day 2: Kalatop, Khajjiar and Chamba
After breakfast a private cab takes you out for the full day. The first stop is Kalatop, a quiet cedar and oak sanctuary about 10 km from town where the walking is easy and the views run out to the Pir Panjal range. From there you carry on to Khajjiar, the wide green saucer of meadow ringed by deodar that gets called the Mini Switzerland of India. Couples usually spend an hour or two here, and the meadow is also where horse riding and the zorbing roll happen when the operators are running. The last stop is Chamba, an old temple town on the Ravi known for its Lakshmi Narayan temples and the Chamba rumal handloom. Head back to Dalhousie for dinner and the night.
Places: Kalatop, Khajjiar, Chamba. Meals: breakfast and dinner. Overnight: Dalhousie.
Day 3: Dharamshala and McLeodganj
After breakfast you drive across to Dharamshala, the seat of the Dalai Lama and the centre of Tibetan life in India. The Tsuglagkhang complex, better known as the Dalai Lama temple, sits up in McLeodganj above the main town and is a calm place to spend the morning. From there most couples walk down to the Bhagsu waterfall and the Bhagsunath temple, stop for coffee at a McLeodganj cafe such as Illiterati or Moonpeak, and take in Dal Lake or the Naddi viewpoint before heading back. Dinner and overnight are in Dharamshala.
Places: Dalai Lama Temple, Bhagsu Nath, McLeodganj, Dal Lake. Meals: breakfast and dinner. Overnight: Dharamshala.
Day 4: Departure to Pathankot
On the last morning you have breakfast, check out, and drive back down to Pathankot, about 87 km and the same 2 hours 20 minutes, in good time for your onward train or flight. If your departure is later in the day, ask your planner about adding the Palampur or Baijnath tea-garden route on the way out, which can usually be arranged when you book.
Meals: breakfast.
Where you stay
You spend the two Dalhousie nights at Hotel Dalhousie Hills near Banikhet in Chamba district, and the Dharamshala night at Hotel Manu Vinod up in Satobari, close to Dal Lake and Naddi. Both are comfortable mid-range honeymoon stays, and you can ask to swap either one up or down a tier when you customise. Hotel names are confirmed on your final voucher and may change with the season.
Things to do for couples
The fixed itinerary covers the headline sights. These are the add-ons couples ask for most, and you can fold any of them into your custom plan when you book.
• Dainkund sunset: catch the sunset from Dainkund Peak, the highest point around Dalhousie, a short drive plus a gentle walk up to the Pholani Devi temple.
• Satdhara and Panchpula: add the Satdhara falls and Panchpula, the two easy stops on the standard Dalhousie sightseeing loop, to your free Dalhousie time.
• Khajjiar meadow: try horse riding or the zorbing roll on the Khajjiar meadow while you are there on Day 2.
• Dalhousie town: visit St John's Church and browse the little shops around Gandhi Chowk in Dalhousie town on your first evening.
• McLeodganj cafes: go cafe-hopping in McLeodganj and take the short walk to the Bhagsu waterfall on the Dharamshala day.
Tell your trip planner which of these you want and they go into your plan. Availability of guided activities is confirmed at the time of booking.
