Day-wise Dharamshala Sightseeing Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Dharamshala and a Leisure Evening

Your trip begins with a scenic drive up from the plains. At Pathankot Railway Station your driver meets you and transfers you the roughly 85 km to Dharamshala, a run of about three hours through the Kangra foothills. Once you have checked in to the pre-booked hotel, the evening is yours. Most travellers use it for a slow walk through Kotwali Bazaar or a first look at the War Memorial gardens before an early night. Meals included: dinner. Private transfers included.

Day 2: McLeodganj, Bhagsunag and the Tsuglagkhang Complex

Today is a full day in McLeodganj, the Tibetan quarter above Dharamshala. Start at the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the Dalai Lama's temple and the spiritual heart of the town, and step into the Namgyal Monastery within it. Drive up to Bhagsu for the Bhagsu Nag Temple and the Bhagsu Nag waterfall, stop at St. John's Church in the Wilderness under the deodars, and take in the Dhauladhar range from Naddi viewpoint and the Talnoo sunset point. Round it off at the small Dal Lake ringed by cedar. If you would rather swap a temple stop for a walk, the Triund trek starts from here, and the Norbulingka Institute, the Tibetan arts and crafts centre, sits a short drive down towards Sidhpur. You can also ride the Dharamshala Skyway, the ropeway that climbs from lower Dharamshala to McLeodganj in a few minutes, and cricket fans can fold in the HPCA Stadium, the highest international cricket ground in the world, on the way back. Day 3: Palampur Excursion and the Kangra Valley

After breakfast, head out to Palampur, the tea capital of the northwest. The day covers the Chamunda Devi Temple on the banks of the Baner river, the Palampur tea gardens, and Gopalpur Zoo, the small high-altitude wildlife park on the Palampur road. If you want more of the Kangra valley, this is the day to add Kangra Fort, one of the oldest hill forts in India, the Kangra Art Museum in Dharamshala town with its Kangra-school miniature paintings, or the Masrur Rock-Cut Temples, a cluster of monolithic shrines carved from a single sandstone ridge about an hour past Kangra town. Day 4: Departure

Enjoy a last breakfast at the hotel and check out. Your driver transfers you back to Pathankot Railway Station in time for your onward journey home. Meals included: breakfast. Cab transfer included.
