the extended Parvati Valley trek circuit

This is the long version of a Parvati Valley trip. Over six days you base in Kasol, walk up to the hot springs at Kheerganga and camp the night, drop into the hillside village of Tosh, take the langar at Manikaran, and finish with a short guided trek to Malana. Two of those days are real walks, not viewpoints from a car, which is what sets this circuit apart from a Kasol sightseeing trip of the same length.

Kasol itself sits on the Parvati river in Kullu district, Himachal Pradesh, at about 1,640 m. It is the base most trekkers pick for the valley: riverside cafes on one bank, the easy Chalal walk on the other, and the Kheerganga trailhead a short drive up the road at Barshaini. The package handles the hard logistics, the overnight coach from Delhi, the intercity cabs, the hotel and camp nights, so the six days are spent walking and resting rather than arranging transport.

    Day by day itinerary

Day 1: Delhi to Kasol (overnight Volvo)

Your trip starts in the evening in Delhi. Board an overnight Volvo coach towards the Parvati Valley and settle in for the run through the plains. You sleep on the coach as it climbs into the Kullu valley overnight, which is what keeps a full six-day circuit inside a working week without losing a daytime to travel.

Day 2: Arrival in Kasol, the market and the Chalal walk

The coach reaches Bhuntar bus stand in the morning, roughly 377 km and about 10 and a half hours from Delhi. From here a cab takes you the last stretch to your hotel near Jari and Kasol. Check in, shake off the journey, and give the afternoon to Kasol: the market, the Israeli and Himalayan cafes, and the flat stretch of riverbank where most people end up sitting. With energy to spare, cross the footbridge for the Chalal walk, an easy 2 to 3 hour round stroll along the Parvati through pine forest to the small hamlet of Chalal. Trekkers who want a longer warm-up can push on toward Grahan village instead, a steeper half-day out and back. Dinner and the night are at the hotel.

Day 3: The Kheerganga trek and hot spring

After breakfast and check-out, a private vehicle runs you up to Barshaini, the trailhead. The climb to Kheerganga starts here: a steady ascent of about 12 km that most fit beginners manage in 5 to 6 hours with breaks. You pass Rudra Nag, the waterfall roughly halfway up, then work through the final rise to the meadow at the top. The reward is the natural hot-water spring at Kheerganga, a warm soak at about 3,000 m with the peaks around you. Refuel with coffee, snacks and a camp dinner, and sleep the night in a Kheerganga camp under a clear sky.

    Day 4: Down to Tosh

Wake to the view over the Parvati peaks and, after breakfast, walk back down toward Barshaini. From there you carry on to Tosh, a village strung along a ridge above the valley with wooden houses and cafes that look straight out onto the snow line. It is a slow, unhurried day after the trek: settle into a Tosh guesthouse, eat well, and let your legs recover. Dinner and the night are in Tosh.

Day 5: Back to Kasol via Manikaran

Leave Tosh after breakfast and drive back down the valley toward Kasol, stopping at Manikaran on the way. Manikaran is a Sikh and Hindu pilgrimage town known for its boiling hot springs. Take the langar at the Gurudwara, and if you like, the hot-spring bath the town is built around. Carry on to Kasol, check back into the hotel, and spend a last easy evening by the river. Dinner and the night are in Kasol.

Day 6: The Malana trek and departure

One more walk before you leave. After an early breakfast you transfer to the Malana trailhead for a short guided trek of about 5 km, with temples and waterfalls along the path, into Malana, the old village famous for its own customs and rules for visitors. Your guide explains what you can and cannot touch in the village, which matters here more than most places. By afternoon you return to Jari, drive to Bhuntar, and board the overnight Volvo back to Delhi, arriving the next morning.

Want to reshape the circuit? Tosh can stretch to a full night on its own, Grahan can replace the Chalal afternoon for a harder walk, and the Malana day can be dropped if you would rather leave a morning early. Tell your trip planner and the days move around your choice. For more on what each village is like, our guide to places to visit in Kasol covers Chalal, Tosh, Malana and Kheerganga in more depth.

What makes this a trek circuit, not a sightseeing trip

A Kasol sightseeing trip of the same length stays low in the valley and moves by cab. This one earns its nights. The four things that define it:

    • The Kheerganga trek and hot spring the main climb of the circuit, about 12 km up from Barshaini to a natural hot-water spring at roughly 3,000 m, with a camp night at the top.

    • The Malana trek a short guided walk of about 5 km on the last day into a village with its own laws, temples and waterfalls on the way in.

    • The Chalal and Grahan walks an easy 2 to 3 hour riverside stroll from Kasol to Chalal, with Grahan as a steeper alternative for anyone who wants a second real walk.

    • A camp night and Manikaran one night in a Kheerganga camp under open sky, plus the langar and hot springs at Manikaran on the way back.

Kheerganga trek: difficulty, distance and fitness

The Kheerganga trek is graded easy to moderate. From the Barshaini trailhead it is about 12 km one way, climbing steadily to roughly 3,000 m, and most people who walk regularly finish it in 5 to 6 hours with breaks. You do not need prior trekking experience or a guide certification for it. What you do need is decent shoes with grip, water, and the sense to start early so you reach the top in daylight. The path is well used and easy to follow, and there are dhabas along the way for tea and Maggi. Children who are used to walking and older travellers who keep an even pace both manage it; the only real filter is being comfortable on your feet for the better part of a day. The Malana walk on Day 6 is shorter and gentler at about 5 km.

Best time to visit and what to pack

For the trek, aim for March to June or September to November. Those are the windows when the Kheerganga trail is open, the weather is settled and the hot spring at the top is at its best. Kasol town itself is pleasant for most of the year, but in deep winter the higher path to Kheerganga is often under snow and the trek is closed even when the town is reachable. Monsoon, roughly July and August, brings slippery trail and the odd landslide on the road up.

Pack for a walking trip, not a resort one. The essentials:

    • Footwear broken-in shoes with grip are the single most important item, plus two or three pairs of socks.

    • Warm clothes layers for the camp night, since Kheerganga drops cold after dark even in summer. A fleece and a light windproof jacket cover most seasons; add a heavier layer March and November.

    • On the trek a small daypack, a one-litre water bottle, a power bank, a torch or head-lamp for the camp, basic first aid and any personal medicine.

    • Extras a poncho or rain shell in the shoulder months, and cash, since card and network coverage thin out above Kasol.

How to reach the trek from Delhi

There is no rail-head or airport at Kasol, so the route runs through Bhuntar. The overnight coach in this package handles that leg, but here is how the journey breaks down.

What this 6 day circuit costs and what is included

This package starts at Rs 19,325 per person on twin sharing and runs to about Rs 21,236 depending on season and group size. Unlike a trek-only fee, that price covers the parts of a Parvati trip people forget to add up: the return Volvo from Delhi, every cab inside the valley, two hotel nights in Kasol, a night in Tosh, the Kheerganga camp, and breakfast and dinner each day. Lunch, personal spends and anything weather related sit outside it. The full split is below.

    Cancellation and booking policy

You can book this circuit with a part payment and settle the balance before departure. Cancellations run on a sliding scale: cancel well ahead of the start date and only a small booking charge applies, while cancellations closer to departure carry a higher deduction because the Volvo seats and the Kheerganga camp are held in advance. If the operator or winter weather closes the Kheerganga leg, that portion of the trip is re-planned or refunded rather than lost. Your trip planner shares the exact refund window in writing before you pay. Most operator pages on this route do not spell this out; laying it out here is deliberate.

Why book this Kasol trek circuit with TravelTriangle

This is a real, bookable product run through a verified local agent network, not a blog itinerary you assemble yourself. Every day above is operated on the ground, the Kheerganga camp and the Kasol and Tosh hotels are held for you, and the 4.1 rating from 194 people who ran this trip sits inside the 40 Lac+ travellers who have booked through TravelTriangle since 2011. You can move any day, swap Grahan for Chalal, drop the Malana morning, or add a night in Tosh, and a single planner handles the whole change.

"On this circuit, take the evening Volvo out of Delhi rather than a morning bus. You reach Kasol on Day 2 with the afternoon free and start the Kheerganga trek fresh on Day 3 instead of losing it to travel," says our Himachal trip desk.

Prices, the camp and the hotel bookings on this page are checked by our Himachal trip desk against live operator availability before your trip is confirmed.

Travel agent SHIVANI SINGH guided us well. The cab driver SALIM Bhai was the finest driver we have ever seen. He has full knowledge about each and every place. He was well mannered and friendly. We enjoyed our trip fully.

We are very pleased to share our travel experience which was organized by Travel Magzine. All arrangements were good and accommodations were wonderful. We have been provided with a very good vehicle, caring and knowledgeable driver. We owe a great thanks to the Trip Advisor Mr Deepak Tiwari Who was
in constant touch with us during our trip.

Planning and coordination was good. I would like to mention special thanks to Mr. Rakesh, admin at HOTEL SAMDUPLING in Dharmashala for taking care of us at his best. Also all service men at the hotel was pretty good. Another hotel in Dalhousie where we checked in was HOTEL NEW PALACE, there is a lo
t to improve right from front desk to servicing. I found front desk people bit harsh. Our cab driver, Mr. Naresh Anand he was at his best in driving.
