Even so, the bus is the route most people take, because it is direct in spirit, runs overnight so you do not lose a day, and lands you in the hills by breakfast. Reckon on 10 to 13 hours for the Delhi to Bhuntar leg, then about an hour up the Parvati road.

Where Delhi to Kasol buses board from

State-run services leave from Kashmiri Gate ISBT, where HRTC and HPTDC run ordinary, semi-sleeper and Volvo AC buses towards Bhuntar, Kullu and Manali. Most private overnight sleepers pick up from Majnu Ka Tila and around RK Ashram Metro station, which is where the backpacker crowd gathers. Majnu Ka Tila in particular has become the unofficial starting point for the Parvati Valley run, so if you are booking a private Volvo that is usually your pickup.

Operators, timing and fares

On the government side, HRTC and HPTDC run the cheapest and most frequent buses. On the private side the reliable overnight names are Zingbus, IntrCity SmartBus, Laxmi Holidays and Bedi Travels, mostly 2+1 Volvo and sleeper coaches. Departures cluster in the evening so you sleep through the drive; the last services leave around 23:55. Fares sit roughly in a Rs 450 to 1,600 band depending on whether you take an ordinary state bus or a private AC sleeper, and they climb on weekends and in peak season. Book a day or two ahead in summer, when the valley fills up and the good sleepers sell out.

The last leg is the same for everyone: get down at Bhuntar, then take a local HRTC bus or a shared cab for the 31 to 40 km up to Kasol, about an hour. Buses to Bhuntar are frequent through the morning, so you rarely wait long. Delhi to Kasol by Train

You cannot book a train that ends in Kasol, because Kasol has no railway station. The nearest one is Joginder Nagar, about 143 km away, but it sits on the slow narrow-gauge Kangra Valley line and is impractical as an arrival point. The sensible rail plan from Delhi is to take a fast train to Chandigarh or Kalka (roughly 4 to 5 hours), then continue the remaining 275 km or so to Kasol by Volvo bus or cab through Bilaspur, Mandi and Bhuntar, about 8 to 9 hours on the road. End to end, the train-and-road combination usually runs 12 to 16 hours depending on your train and the road conditions. Delhi to Kasol by Air

Flying is the fastest way to reach Kasol from Delhi. There is no airport at Kasol, so you fly into Bhuntar, also called Kullu-Manali Airport (code KUU), about 31 km before the village. Alliance Air operates the short Delhi to Bhuntar hop of about 1.5 hours, though the service is small and seasonal, so seats and schedules are limited. From Bhuntar it is a 31 to 40 km cab or bus of roughly an hour up the Parvati road to Kasol.

If Bhuntar flights do not line up with your dates, the reliable fallback is to fly Delhi to Chandigarh and finish the last stretch by road in about 8 to 9 hours. Flying is the least tiring option and the one to pick if your holiday is short, but for the money most Delhi travellers still choose the overnight bus.

Delhi to Kasol by Road and Self-Drive (via NH44)

Driving yourself is about 500 to 540 km and roughly 10 to 12 hours behind the wheel, so plan it as a full day or split it with an overnight halt near Chandigarh or Bilaspur. The route runs north on NH44 out of Delhi through Sonipat, Panipat, Karnal and Ambala, then swings towards Rupnagar, Bilaspur and Mandi before Bhuntar, where you turn off for the final Parvati Valley stretch to Kasol. The highway to Mandi is fast and in good shape; the mountain section after Bhuntar is narrow and slow.

Drive the last leg in daylight, and avoid the July to August monsoon if you can, when landslides occasionally block the Mandi to Bhuntar stretch. For groups splitting fuel and tolls, self-drive works out well and gives you the freedom to stop; travelling solo, the overnight bus or a flight is far less punishing. Winter drivers should carry warm layers and watch for icy patches on the higher sections.
