By flight (fastest, most common)

By train

Day 1 - Arrive Shimla, Mall Road and Lakkar Bazaar

Day 3 - Shimla to Manali via Kullu Valley

En route you follow the Kullu Valley beside the Beas river and can stop at Pandoh Dam, Sundar Nagar Lake, Hanogi Mata Temple and the Kullu shawl factories. Reach Manali by evening, check in and rest. Distance Shimla to Manali: about 247 km, roughly 7 hours 25 minutes of driving.

Day 4 - Manali sightseeing: Hadimba, Vashisht and Old Manali

A full local day in Manali. Start at the Hadimba Devi Temple set among tall deodar cedars, then drive across to Vashisht village for its temple and the natural hot-water springs. Cover Van Vihar and the Tibetan Monastery, and keep the late afternoon free for The Mall, Manali Market and the IBEX Market for Kullu shawls and woollens. Dinner and the night are in Manali.

Day 5 - Solang Valley, and Atal Tunnel or Sissu for snow

Today is the adventure day. Drive up to Solang Valley, about 13 km and 30 minutes from Manali, for the ropeway and optional paragliding, zorbing, skiing, horse riding and yak rides (these carry extra charges). From roughly December to May the Rohtang Pass is closed by snow, so when it is shut the popular alternative is a run through the Atal Tunnel, the 9 km highway tunnel under the Rohtang range, to Sissu village in Lahaul, where the snow and the Sissu waterfall draw winter visitors. Ask your coordinator to add the Atal Tunnel and Sissu leg if you want guaranteed snow. Back to Manali for dinner. Optional activities in Solang carry extra charges. Day 6 - Departure from Manali

After a final mountain breakfast, check out and your private cab takes you back down to Chandigarh, Delhi or Kalka to connect with your flight, train or Volvo home to Ahmedabad.
