After a delicious breakfast, you will spend your second day in Bhutan visiting all the popular sightseeing spots in Thimphu. The places that you will be visiting today are:

The National Memorial Chorten – This is a site for evening prayer, where you will find people circumambulating the stupa while saying prayers and spinning the prayer wheels.

shakyamuni Buddha – The shakyamuni Buddha or the Buddha Viewpoint is a 51.5-meter tall bronze statue erected on the Kuensel Phodrang hill. This is the best place to witness a spectacular view of the valley.

Changangkha Lhakhang – Dating back to the 15th century, the Changangkha Lhakhang is one of the oldest monasteries.

Takin Zoo – Get up close and personal with one of the world’s most endangered species – Takin which can be found only in Bhutan at the open zoo – Takin Zoo.

The National Library – Along with priceless Buddhist scriptures, you will also find the largest published book in the World in this library. The book weighs 130 pounds and measures 5X7.

Enjoy your drive from Thimphu to Punakha

As per this itinerary, today you will head to Punakha which is a 3 hours journey from Thimphu. You would be traveling through the Dochu-La-Pass to reach higher into the Himalayas. On the way, visit the 108 Druk Wangyal Khangzang Chorten which were built in honor of 108 soldiers who lost their lives in a military operation. The next place of visit is the Punakha Dzong which has been built at the junction of Pho Chu and Mo Chu Rivers. Take a walk through the longest suspension bridge of Bhutan and then visit the Chimi Monastery.

Take a sightseeing tour of the picturesque town of Paro

Post your sumptuous breakfast, you will check-out from the hotel and head to the picturesque town of Paro. Here, you will spend the day visiting different sightseeing spots, such as:

Simtokha Dzong – It is a historical monastery which today houses one of the exclusive Dzongkha language learning institute.

National Museum of Bhutan – Another tourist spot to enrich your cultural knowledge about Bhutan, the National Museum has some of the finest collections of Bhutanese art and culture specimens, bronze statues, paintings, etc.

Ta Dzong – Initially built as a watchtower to defend Rinpung Dzong, today it is known as the National Museum of Bhutan.

Rinpung Dzong – A traditional covered bridge called Nemi Zam takes you to Rinpung Dzong which houses the monastic body of Paro, the office of the Dzongda (district administrative head) and Thrimpon (judge) of Paro district. It was built in 1646.

Visit the most sacred temple of Bhutan

Start your day with a hearty breakfast as today you will be hiking up to the most sacred temple of Bhutan – Taktsang Monastery or the Tiger’s Nest Temple as it is popularly known. Witness some of the most beautiful nature in Bhutan as you hike through a pine forest with rare birds and animals keeping you company on the way. Take a moment here and there to enjoy the beauty of the trees, flowers, and berries. Located on the side of a cliff which is 900 meters above the Paro Valley, the Tiger’s Nest Temple is named so because it is believed that Guru Rinpoche arrived on the back of a tigress here. Spend time soaking in the beauty of this magnanimous temple, a sight that you will not get to witness anywhere else!
