Your 10-Day Itinerary
The tour can start from Delhi (road to Shimla) or Chandigarh, the shorter gateway. Drive times are approximate and depend on road and weather. Rohtang Pass and the Atal Tunnel run on a separate day, and both stay closed roughly December to May.
Day 1: Arrive Shimla and local sightseeing
Meet our driver at the airport or railhead and drive up to Shimla. After check-in you head out to the Viceregal Lodge, with its pre-independence artefacts, then the Sankat Mochan and Jakhu temples before an evening stroll along Mall Road and the Ridge. Overnight in Shimla.
Day 2: Shimla and Kufri
A short drive takes you to Kufri and the Himalayan Nature Park, home to the Himalayan monal, snow leopard and Himalayan black bear. There is time for the hilltop views and the surrounding forest before you return to Shimla for the night. The zoo is open 10 am to 4 pm and stays shut on Mondays.
Day 3: Shimla to Manali
The long, scenic transfer to Manali follows the Beas through Kullu's green valley. You break at Sundar Nagar Lake, Pandoh Dam and a Kullu shawl workshop, with an optional stop at the Kullu river-rafting point at Pirdi. Leave early and the old left-bank road lets you pause at Naggar Castle, a 15th-century timber-and-stone fort above the valley that now holds a small gallery and a temple courtyard, with the Nicholas Roerich art museum a short climb further up. It is a full driving day of roughly 250 km, so expect 7 to 8 hours on the road. Overnight in Manali.
Day 4: Manali local sightseeing
A relaxed day around Manali: the Hadimba Devi temple set in its cedar grove at Van Vihar, the Manu Temple across the river in Old Manali dedicated to the sage Manu, the old stone temples and hot springs at Vashisht, the Tibetan monasteries in town, and the lanes, cafes and shops of Old Manali, Manali Market and the Mall.
Day 5: Solang Valley, with optional Rohtang and Atal Tunnel
Spend the day in Solang Valley, the adventure hub, where ropeway rides, zorbing, paragliding, horse riding and (in season) skiing are all on offer at your own cost. If the road is open you can add the drive to Rohtang Pass, or through the 9.02 km Atal Tunnel to Sissu on the Lahaul side for snow and the Chandra river. Rohtang and the tunnel approach are usually closed December to May, so this add-on is seasonal.
Day 6: Manali to Dharamshala
A mountain-road transfer to Dharamshala past rivers, forests and small villages, roughly 235 km and 8 to 9 hours. If the drive runs to time, the road in passes Kangra, where the Kangra Fort, one of the oldest and largest forts in India, stands above the meeting of the Banganga and Manjhi streams and rewards a short climb for the valley views. Otherwise the day is mostly travel, so you check in and rest for the evening. Overnight in Dharamshala.
Day 7: Dharamshala and McLeodganj, then transfer to Dalhousie
Explore the Tibetan side of Dharamshala: the Dalai Lama temple complex at Tsuglagkhang, St John in the Wilderness church, the Bhagsunag temple and waterfall, and the Naddi viewpoint over the Dhauladhar range. Cricket fans can look in at the HPCA Stadium, one of the highest international grounds in the world. After McLeodganj market you transfer on toward Dalhousie.
Day 8: Dalhousie and Khajjiar
A day around Dalhousie and Khajjiar, the saucer-shaped meadow ringed by deodar that earns the Mini Switzerland tag. On the Dalhousie side you can climb to Dainkund Peak, the area's highest point at about 2,745 m, where a short ridge trail leads to the Pholani Devi temple and long Pir Panjal views, and stop at Subhash Baoli, the shaded spring and rest point named for the time Subhas Chandra Bose spent here. You also visit Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary and the nine-hole golf course, with zorbing and paragliding on the Khajjiar meadow. Panchpula and Chamera Lake are easy add-ons if time allows. Overnight in Dalhousie.
Day 9: Dalhousie to Amritsar and the Wagah Border
Descend from the hills to Amritsar, roughly 200 km and 5 to 6 hours. After a short rest you head to the Wagah Border for the evening flag-lowering ceremony, a loud, patriotic spectacle on the India-Pakistan line. Overnight in Amritsar.
Day 10: Amritsar sightseeing and departure
The last morning is for the Golden Temple, the holiest site in Sikhism, and the memorial at Jallianwala Bagh next door. After lunch you transfer to Amritsar airport or on to Delhi for your onward journey.

| Driver charges, fuel, tolls and parking | Rohtang Pass permit and any personal expenses |
City-to-city distances and drive times
This is a driving circuit, so it helps to know how much road sits between each base. Figures are approximate and vary with traffic, roadworks and weather.
| Leg | Distance (approx.) | Drive time (approx.) |
|---|---|---|
| Delhi to Shimla | 350 km | 7 to 8 hours |
| Chandigarh to Shimla | 113 km | 3.5 hours |
| Shimla to Manali | 250 km | 7 to 8 hours |
| Manali to Dharamshala | 235 km | 8 to 9 hours |
| Dharamshala to Dalhousie | 120 km | 4 to 4.5 hours |
| Dalhousie to Amritsar | 200 km | 5 to 6 hours |
The two longest days are Shimla to Manali and Manali to Dharamshala. Both are mostly transit, which is why the itinerary keeps sightseeing light on those mornings.
Best time to do this circuit
Because the route runs from 2,000-metre hill stations down to the Punjab plains, no single month is perfect everywhere. Here is how the seasons play across the five stops.
| Season | What it's like on this route | Good for |
|---|---|---|
| March to June | Pleasant hill weather, snow lingering at Solang and Rohtang early on, warm days at Wagah. The most popular window. | First-timers, families, snow at Solang |
| July to September | Green and quiet with lower fares, but monsoon can trigger landslides on the Manali-Dharamshala roads. Keep buffer days. | Budget travellers, fewer crowds |
| October to November | Clear, crisp mountain air and open roads after the rains. Excellent all-round. | Photography, comfortable sightseeing |
| December to February | Snow in Shimla and Manali, festive vibe, but Rohtang and the Atal Tunnel approach usually shut and some passes get cut off. | Snow lovers who skip the high passes |

Starts from Delhi or Chandigarh
The package is quoted from Delhi by default, with the first drive climbing to Shimla. If you can reach Chandigarh, that shortens the first leg to about 113 km and 3.5 hours, and Chandigarh airport has more direct flights from South and West India. Tell us your start city when you request the quote and we adjust the routing and the fare. Travellers from Mumbai and Bengaluru usually fly into Chandigarh or Delhi and pick up the tour from there.

Cancellation and refund policy
Plans change, so the booking terms are simple and tiered by how far ahead you cancel. The windows below are the standard frame for this package; your confirmation email carries the exact policy for your dates.
| When you cancel | What applies |
|---|---|
| 30+ days before travel | Refund of the amount paid, less the non-refundable booking token |
| 15 to 29 days before travel | Part-refund after hotel and transport retention charges |
| Under 15 days / no-show | Non-refundable, as hotels and cabs are already locked in |
Date changes are free where hotels and transport allow, subject to any fare difference. Peak-season and long-weekend bookings may carry stricter hotel terms, which we flag before you pay.
