How To Reach Himachal Pradesh

Read about the best & quickest routes to save time & money, as suggested by our travelers

By Air

There are three domestic airports that connect Himachal Pradesh to the rest of the country. These are located at Kullu-Manali, Dharamshala and Shimla. The airports have flights from Himachal Pradesh to Delhi and Chandigarh. You can conveniently travel via air and get down at the airport closest to the cities you wish to visit.

By Train

The kind of rocky terrain that Himachal Pradesh is located on, makes it slightly inconvenient to construct railway tracks. However, with best efforts, a train does run into the state from Pathankot in Punjab. Travelers can drive up to Punjab or take a flight and then take a train to Himachal Pradesh. By train, it takes only about seven and a half hours long. People usually take overnight trains to Himachal so that they reach feeling refreshed. The important railway stations in Himachal are Solan and Una. There is also a toy train available that connects Himachal to Kalka. Opting for a train proves to be great option as they are usually affordable, comfortable, well maintained and a lot more fun than a flight journey.

By Road

The advantage of states situated in the hills is that you can plan a comfortable road trip. The distance from Delhi to Himachal Pradesh by road can be covered in just about 7 hours or maximum 7 and a half hours. The roads are very well maintained and even during the monsoon season, it is safe to drive up to the state, just needs a little caution. Himachal Pradesh is very well connected to the major cities. To reach Himachal by road, you can hire cabs or even take a bus. A bus journey is usually affordable and comfortable too, as the buses stop from time to time and allow people to try out the hill roadside chai and some local delicacies.

Always asks to give the amount without satisfactory service. Killed most of the time. On the last day, the driver has changed and the latter driver is far better than the former one.

Riddhish's 7 days trip to Himachal

All together it was a good experience right from the pickup at the Chandigarh airport to exploring Himachal to our drop to Amritsar on the last day of the trip. We travelled in the month of March (6th to 15th). The driver was efficient and reliable. All the four hotels were good except we had a bitter experience in Golden Apple in Manali. We were supposed to celebrate our anniversary on 8th March in Manali and there were absolutely no arrangements made even though we were told that this would be arranged beforehand, there was a miscommunication between the company and the hotel management. The service was very slow in Golden apple and specially the front desk manager was rude and was absolutely not interested to listen to our concerns. They had a veg buffet and it was repetitive and options were very limited, we also found other guests complaining about the menu and quality of food during breakfast and dinner. We had our anniversary dinner on 9th instead of 8th due to utter mismanagement. Even though there were several calls made by Travel triangle to the hotel manager he was still very adamant to make the required arrangements for our pre-planned anniversary dinner. So finally the food was served in the room after multiple requests, it was a regular veg dinner (nothing special) and a chicken curry (all packed food) and two broken candles and a match box. Is this what we call an anniversary dinner? It was totally ruined and and absolutely disappointing, had a lot of expectations. The cake was horrible and so was decoration in the room. The food quality was again pathetic. The hotel staff in Manali always had this attitude towards us as if we were staying there for free. The food in Dharamsala hotel was definitely not good, but the hotel service and room was pretty good. We had a very good experience in Shimla and Dalhousie. Overall it was a fun holiday.

The experience as a whole was good! Was quite impressed with the hotel services at Chandigarh and Kasol. The hotel given to us for Manali wasn't great at all. It was an untidy place and we were also charged a 2% extra tariff on card services. The cab service & driver were excellent.

Everybody plans their trip through travels to travel tension free but our experience was just opposite. We travelled to manali and shimla with lots of tension because of bag packers tours and travels . They didn't let us travel tension freely . Even though the total amount was cleared cab and hotel people asks for money and the assigned travel agents did not respond properly. Much of the time was wasted due to this money issues. Please do not do this to anybody and next time I would definitely not recommend this travels to anybody. It's a big NO!!!
