    About the Package

The Ashtavinayaka is difficult to define. The word literally means “eight Ganeshas” in Sanskrit, and denotes the eight distinct Ganesh idols that are housed in various very sacred and important temples in towns all over the state of Maharashtra. Each temple is unique in its own way, each idol with its own legends and myths. Learning about these myths and stories is just as fascinating as actually visiting each of these temples. Visit these temples with the Ashtavinayak tour from Nashik.

Visiting all eight Ganapati’s in the Ashtavinayak route means you are well on your way to achieving true spirituality! The idols in each of these eight temples are called “Swayambhu” effigies, meaning they were found formed naturally, and not sculpted intentionally!

The most important of the eight temples is the one in Morgaon. Popularly called the Mayureshwar Ganpati temple, this shrine to God is said to have been constructed during the Bahmani reign and is situated in the center of the village as are most ancient temples. To prevent attacks on the temple from Mughal rulers, the people of the village constructed four minarets around the temple to disguise it as a mosque. The unique thing about this temple is the Nandi perched just outside the temple entrance—usually we find Nandi in front of Shiva temples only, but this temple is unique! Don’t forget to make sure that you add this in your itinerary for your Ashtavinayak yatra from Nashik.

Siddhivinayak temple in Siddhatek is also just as unique in its own way. It is the only temple out of the eight in which the Ganesh idol has its trunk positioned to the right instead of the left side. This uniquely right-trunked Ganesha is said to be very strict in his beliefs and expectations of devotees, and so, to complete one pradakshina of the temple, you will have to make a round trip of the hillock that the temple sits on—this will take you about 30 minutes to complete! Visit these temples with the Ashtavinayak tour from Nashik.

Ballaleshwar Ganpati rests in Pali, where stories say that Lord Ganesh saved a young boy named Ballala from being beaten to death by the villagers—the God was summoned simply by the boy’s devotions and desperate prayers. The idol that is the center of this temple is somehow very similar to the shape of the mountain which lies behind the temple.

These are only four of the eight most important Ganapati temples in India—there is nothing more fulfilling than visiting these temples on the Ashtavinayak tour from Nashik and letting yourself be stunned by the sheer depth and magnitude of the Hindu religion and faith.

      FAQs for Maharashtra

How much does an Ashtavinayak trip cost?

The average cost of an Ashtavinayak trip will depend upon the number of people travelling, the type of accommodation (luxury, budget, family), and the number of days you plan to spend at the destination. For a 2 days trip with an Ashtavinayak package from Nashik, you can end up shelling out INR 10,000 whereas if you are planning a long trip it will cost you significantly more. This is also one of the best places for budget travel which you can practice by a frugal approach to limit other expenses and still be able to see all the temples.

How many days is enough for an Ashtavinayak trip?

If you are planning a short weekend getaway in Pune to cover a few major travel destinations, a 3-4 day trip can help you to tour all the temples. The alternative is a short escapade to immerse yourself in the culture for which we recommend our Ashtavinayak package from Nashik which is a 2 days trip in which you can explore multiple destinations. The number of days will also depend on the kind of activities you are planning to include in your itinerary. The travel plan we recommend includes a trip to all the temples for an all-inclusive list.

How can I complete Ashtavinayak in 2 days?

The Ashtavinayak Yatra focuses on a pilgrimage that will take you on a trip to visit eight Ganesha temples in Maharashtra. While it is recommended that you complete this journey in one go and don’t return without exploring all of the distinct Ganesha idols that each place has to offer, two days is the most you will need with added breaks and stops. Make sure that you break up the itinerary to fill both days, plan the places where you will eat and rest. The total distance that you will be covering on the Ashtavinayak trip will be 654 km and if you need additional help planning, our Ashtavinayak package from Nashik can assist you with your journey.

Why should I go on the Ashtavinayak tour?

The Ashtavinayak tour will take you to more than eight towns in the span of three days. Each temple is more spiritual and rejuvenating than the last, and is sure to show you a side of history and religion you did not think existed.

What should I wear on the Ashtavinayak tour?

As you will be visiting temples, it is best to dress in traditional Indian clothes. Make sure to dress decently and respectfully so you do not offend any sensibilities!

What is the best time to go on this tour?

Maharashtra in general is a very hot state. The best time to go on the temple tour would be at a time when temperatures are pleasant, and Maharashtra experiences the best temperatures between the months of September and February. The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is celebrated in the month of September, so if possible, do make sure to be a part of the celebrations!

We chose Your Hotel Stay for our Mahabaleswar-Panchgani trip. Our trip began from Saturday morning. On Saturday we went around various places in Mahabaleswar. The elephant head point and the Shiv temple is something I would love to recommend. Just a walk away from Shiv temple is an archeological site which should not be missed. On this site there is a Shiv ling belong which Krishna river is flowing. The next day we went to Wai and this was recommended by driver. I will recommend this place. It is an unexplored tourist destination. The place is very cheap for boat rides and water sports. One must visit Dhom Dam for the nature's beauty and water sports. Wai also has a Ganesh temple. On the same day we went to Panchgani which has various points. I will suggest Table Top point where one can go and checkout tiger caves. Thanks to the driver's suggestion we got to see the beautiful town named Wai. People who are planning Mahabaleswar-Panchgani trip should also include Wai in the list. Our stay arrangements were made at West Hill hotel. The hotel is neat and clean. Hotel staff is courteous and polite. Only problem is that there is no lift and the restaurant is at 3rd floor. On weekends they play live music. The singer is really good. However I will suggest that the singer should interact more with audience and if requests are given then he should sing them sportingly A visit to Wai
