Dharamshala Dalhousie Khajjiar tour package
This Dharamshala Dalhousie Khajjiar tour package covers three of the best-loved names in Kangra and Chamba in one relaxed 3 nights and 4 days circuit. You spend your first night in Dharamshala and McLeodganj, the seat of the Dalai Lama, then move to Dalhousie for two nights of colonial hill-station calm, and give a full day to Kalatop and Khajjiar, the saucer-shaped meadow travellers call India's mini Switzerland. It suits couples on a first Himachal trip, families and anyone who wants mountains, monasteries and old churches without long treks or hard travel. You reach Dharamshala by overnight Volvo or train, travel every sightseeing leg by private AC vehicle, and stay in comfortable 3-star hotels. The pace stays easy: sightseeing, some photography, a little shopping and time to eat well. For more routes across the state, see our full range of Himachal tour packages.
Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Dharamshala, McLeodganj sightseeing
You arrive at Dharamshala Volvo or railway station, where our representative meets you and transfers you to the pre-booked hotel. After you check in and freshen up, head up to McLeodganj, the Tibetan quarter above Dharamshala. You visit the Tsuglagkhang Complex, the main temple of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, then the Bhagsu Nag Temple with its short walk to the Bhagsu waterfall, the calm Dal Lake ringed by deodar trees, and the Naddi viewpoint for wide Dhauladhar views. There is time to browse the Tibetan market for handicrafts and momos before you return to the hotel for the night. If you would like to add the 8th-century Kangra Fort, near Gaggal on the way in, ask your planner to fit it into this day. (Arrival, transfers and stay included.)
Day 2: Dharamshala to Dalhousie, Dalhousie sightseeing
After breakfast, check out and drive to Dalhousie, a scenic run of about 120 km through the Kangra and Chamba countryside that takes four to five hours. On arrival you check in, then set out to see the town the British built across five hills. You visit the colonial-era churches, St John's Church of 1863 on Gandhi Chowk, St Francis Church on Subhash Chowk, and St Patrick's Church, the largest of the three. From there the sightseeing takes in Panchpula, where a stream feeds a series of pools and the Subhash Baoli spring sits among cedars, the Satdhara falls known for their mineral water, and the Bakrota Hills for a quiet high-altitude walk. Wind up at the Tibetan Market around Gandhi Chowk for Chamba rumals, shawls and souvenirs before returning to the hotel. (Breakfast, sightseeing and stay included.)
Day 3: Full-day Kalatop and Khajjiar excursion
After breakfast you leave for a full day at Kalatop and Khajjiar. First stop is the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, a dense forest of deodar and oak where you can walk marked trails and watch for Himalayan birds and deer. You then continue to Khajjiar, about 23 km from Dalhousie, the wide green meadow rimmed by cedar forest that earns its mini Switzerland name. Here you can take a slow loop around the small Khajjiar lake, visit the golden-domed Khajji Nag temple at its edge, and try zorbing, horse riding or a short paragliding hop when conditions allow. After the excursion you drive back to Dalhousie for the night. (Breakfast, sightseeing and stay included.)
Day 4: Departure from Dharamshala
Your last morning starts with breakfast at the hotel. After you pack and check out, our team drives you back to Dharamshala, a run of roughly 120 km, and drops you at the Volvo or bus stand for your onward journey. If your bus is in the evening, there is time for a last stop at the McLeodganj market before departure. You head home with memories of monasteries, old churches, forest trails and the green bowl of Khajjiar. (Breakfast and departure transfer included.)

How to reach Dharamshala, Dalhousie and Khajjiar
By air, the nearest airport is Gaggal (Kangra) airport, about 13 km from Dharamshala, with flights from Delhi; for the Dalhousie side, Pathankot airport is the closer option. By rail, Pathankot Junction is the main broad-gauge railhead, roughly 85 to 90 km from both Dalhousie and Dharamshala, with taxis and buses onward; the scenic Kangra Valley narrow-gauge line also runs close to Dharamshala. By road, Dharamshala is about 250 km from Chandigarh (six to seven hours) and around 480 km from Delhi, best covered on an overnight Volvo bus. Khajjiar sits about 23 km from Dalhousie and is reached by road as a day trip, which is how this package covers it.
Best time to visit
March to June brings clear, pleasant days across all three stops and is the easiest window for first-time visitors, with daytime highs comfortable for sightseeing and cool evenings. December to February is cold and is the season for snow, when Khajjiar and Dalhousie can turn white and the meadow looks its best under a light cover; carry heavy woollens and check road conditions. The July to September monsoon brings heavy rain to this belt, with a risk of landslides and roadblocks on the Chamba routes, so it is the season most travellers avoid. Pack layers whatever the month, since hill evenings stay cool even in summer.
Hotels
You stay 1 night in Dharamshala and 2 nights in Dalhousie in comfortable 3-star hotels or guesthouses with daily breakfast. The current properties are Royal Palace Resort in Dharamshala and OYO Hotel Oak Valley in Dalhousie. You can upgrade to a 4-star or premium stay, or shift to a budget option, when you customise the package.
