Dharamshala Volvo Bus Tour from Delhi 4 Days & 3 Nights

This 4-day tour puts you on an overnight A/C Volvo coach from Delhi and wakes you in the Dhauladhar foothills. You board in the evening in Delhi, sleep through the roughly 493 km run up NH44 and the Kangra valley road, and reach Dharamshala the next morning with a full day still ahead. The journey runs about 10 to 12 hours and sets you down at the Dharamshala bus stand, a short transfer from your hotel.

No early flight, no train change at Pathankot. You get on a bus in Delhi and get off in the mountains. Over the next three days you cover McLeodganj, the Tibetan town above Dharamshala, and a day out to the tea gardens of Palampur, before an overnight Volvo brings you home.

Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1 | Arrive in Dharamshala by overnight Volvo

You board the A/C Volvo in Delhi the previous evening and reach Dharamshala the next morning, so Day 1 begins in the hills rather than on the road. Our representative meets you at the Dharamshala bus stand and transfers you to the hotel. After the overnight run the day is kept light: check in, rest, then wander Kotwali Bazaar or the McLeodganj market for woollens and Tibetan handicrafts. Evenings here stay cool for most of the year, so keep a jacket within reach.

Day 2 | McLeodganj sightseeing

After breakfast you head up to McLeodganj, the Tibetan town above Dharamshala. The day takes in the Tsuglagkhang complex with the Dalai Lama's temple and Namgyal Monastery, the Bhagsu Nag temple and its waterfall, St John in the Wilderness church set in a deodar forest, the war memorial, and the Talnoo sunset point for the evening light on the Dhauladhar. Dal Lake and the Naddi viewpoint sit close by if time allows. Lunch is at one of the small cafes around the main square. Leave room in your bag for the Tibetan market: prayer flags, silver and thangka prints are what people actually carry home.

Day 3 | Palampur and the tea gardens

Day 3 trades monastery bells for tea country. You drive out to Palampur, about 35 km south, where the Kangra tea gardens run right up to the Dhauladhar. The day covers the working tea estates, the Gopalpur zoo (a stop that earns its keep when you are travelling with kids), and the Chamunda Devi temple on the Baner river. Drive back to Dharamshala through the afternoon, with the rest of the evening free.

Day 4 | Departure by evening Volvo

After a last hill breakfast you check out and spend the day at leisure until your evening transfer to the Dharamshala bus stand, where the return A/C Volvo to Delhi boards. You travel through the night and reach Delhi the next morning. Book any onward train or flight for the morning after you arrive, not the same night, so a late run does not cost you a connection.
