Overview
Are you searching for a place to visit this June where you’ll get to experience so much of history and tradition in one place? And also marvel at technology from over a hundred years ago? Then you most definitely should take a visit to the wonderful city of Jaipur in June. The city was founded in 1727 by the Rajput ruler Jai Singh II and after British colonial rule, Jaipur became the capital of a new state, Rajasthan. Also, the population of Jaipur was estimated as of 2011, to be 3.1 million people, thus making it Rajasthan’s largest city and India’s 10th most populous city.
Many locals and tourists famously call Jaipur the pink city and you might wonder why. This is because a large percentage of buildings and houses in the city are painted in terra-cotta or earth-like pink color, which gives off different shades that range from pink to a brownish red. It’s also said that there is a local law that instructs that the buildings in Jaipur should be painted in pink. How and why the pink buildings? The idea was copied from the red sandstone culture of the Maugham Cities, and again under the direction of the Maharajah (Sawai Ram Singh), Jaipur buildings were painted in pink when the Prince of Wales, Prince Albert, came to visit Jaipur in 1876 during his tour of India. The Maharajah being one of the richest and most powerful men in India then, wanted to strengthen his ties with the British Royal families and high officials so as to also gain personal acquaintance and Favour with the British colony, he first ensured Prince Albert would visit Jaipur and then constructed a lavish concert hall — the Albert Hall — named after the Prince of Wales. Then he proceeded to paint the city in the uniform color of pink, and all these were done to impress the prince. If you embark on a Jaipur visit in June, you will notice that the modern day buildings are still being painted in pink. This is because one of the Maharajah’s favorite wives enjoyed the color pink, and so she persuaded him to pass into law, that all buildings in Jaipur must be painted in pink and building which didn’t stick to the standard were considered illegal.
You will get to see many other fascinating buildings and historical monuments when you visit Jaipur in June, but not only these. As a tourist, your patience could be tested in different ways, from the noise pollution to the environmental pollutants and even the many touts and hawkers who may want to sell things to you once they realize you’re a tourist. So many tourists would have to learn to deal with the exciting parts of their tour and the other rigorous aspects of getting used to life in Jaipur.
You should embark on this exploration by going to visit Jaipur in June so you can explore the Jantar Mantar and the Amer Fort, both of which are UNESCO world heritage sites. These are not the only festivals but Jaipur has two very important festivals and these are the Makar Sankranti festival (the kite festival) and the Elephant Festival. Due to the reverence of elephants and the symbolical roles of elephants to Indians, during the Elephant Festival, elephants are decorated with colors and fancy fabrics. They’re celebrated and paraded around the streets.
Top places you can visit in Jaipur are the Amer Fort, the Birla Temple, the Nahargarh Fort, Chokhi Dhani, Jouhari Bazaar and other places of interest. Many visitors and tourists like to also stop around the Amer-Jaipur road so as to have a lovely view of the Jal Mahal Palace and its Lake Man Sagar. The Jal Mahal Palace is located at the center of the lake, which is a beautiful and artificial lake. The golden yellowish contrast of the Jal Mahal Palace sitting atop the blue of the Lake makes for a very picturesque view. Other interesting and random facts which you should know if you’re thinking of going on a Jaipur visit in June are that: Jaipur was India’s first planned city and some people often refer to it as the Royal city. A tour of the Pink City of Jaipur in June will be a worthy trip!
