Kanpur to Kashmir Tour Package (6D/5N): Overview
Kanpur to Kashmir is about 1,300 km by road and close to 1,000 km in a straight line. Driving takes roughly 19 to 20 hours, and there is no year-round nonstop flight, so most people fly via Delhi or take a train to Jammu and finish by road. Once you have decided how to get there, this 6 days and 5 nights plan covers Katra, Srinagar, Sonamarg and Gulmarg from Rs 24,500 per person on twin sharing. Every trip is customisable, you get on-ground support in the valley, and you can change any day before you pay.
• Distance from Kanpur: about 1,300 km by road (roughly 1,281 to 1,329 km depending on route), close to 1,000 km aerial.
• Getting there: no dependable year-round nonstop; fly via Delhi (Lucknow airport is the practical hub), or train to Jammu Tawi / Katra and then road or the Katra-Srinagar Vande Bharat.
• Price: from Rs 24,500 per person, twin sharing (land package).
• Duration: 6 days, 5 nights.
• Route: Katra with Vaishno Devi, Srinagar and the Dal Lake, a Sonamarg excursion, and a full day in Gulmarg.
• Included: 3-star hotels plus a Dal Lake houseboat night, airport and railway transfers, daily breakfast and dinner, sightseeing, a shikara ride, and taxes.
• Best months: March to October. Tulips peak in April, and December to February brings snow to Gulmarg.
Kanpur to Kashmir Distance
The road distance from Kanpur to Srinagar, the gateway to the Kashmir Valley, is about 1,300 km. Different route planners put it between 1,281 km and 1,329 km because they measure to slightly different points, but 1,300 km is the number to plan with. The aerial (straight-line) distance is shorter, close to 1,000 km, which is why flying saves so much time. A non-stop drive would take around 19 to 20 hours, though with meals, fuel and an overnight break most travellers split it across two days.
The practical takeaway for anyone leaving from Kanpur: you cannot reach the valley in one comfortable hop. You either fly (fastest, with a change at Delhi) or you break the trip at Jammu or Katra and cover the last stretch to Srinagar by road or on the new Vande Bharat rail link. The table below lays out every option side by side.
How to Reach Srinagar from Kanpur
| Mode | Route from Kanpur | Distance | Time | Typical fare (per person) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Flight (fastest) | Fly from Lucknow (LKO) or Kanpur (KNU), connect at Delhi to Srinagar (SXR) | about 1,000 km aerial | 5 to 7 hours including the layover | from Rs 6,500 one way, seasonal |
| Train | Kanpur Central (CNB) to Jammu Tawi, then the Jammu Tawi–Srinagar Vande Bharat (26401/26402, via Katra); you can also board it at Katra | about 1,300 km | 24 to 27 hours total | Rs 1,400 to 2,800 |
| Road (cab or self-drive) | NH-19 to Agra, then NH-44 north via Delhi, Jammu and Banihal into the valley | about 1,300 km | 24 to 28 hours with breaks | fuel or cab basis |
| Bus | No direct service; change at Delhi or Jammu for a valley bus | about 1,300 km | 28 to 32 hours | Rs 1,800 to 3,500 |
By flight
This is what most Kanpur travellers choose. Kanpur Airport (KNU) has limited connectivity, so the reliable option is to fly from Lucknow (LKO), about 80 km and a 90-minute to 2-hour drive from Kanpur, straight to a connecting flight for Srinagar (SXR). There is no year-round nonstop to the valley, so expect one change, almost always at Delhi. Counting the road to Lucknow and the layover, plan on roughly 5 to 7 hours of travel. Srinagar Airport is about 15 km from the Dal Lake, and your package transfer meets you there.
By train
There is no direct train from Kanpur to Srinagar. You take a train from Kanpur Central (CNB) to Jammu Tawi (JAT) or Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra (SVDK), a run of roughly 20 to 24 hours, then finish the last leg to the valley. Since 2025 the Katra to Srinagar Vande Bharat has cut that final stretch to a few scenic hours across the new Chenab and Anji bridges, so the train route is now far more comfortable than it used to be. For the current rail picture and how the new line changes access, our guide to trains to Kashmir is worth a read before you book.
By road
Driving from Kanpur means taking NH-19 (or the Agra-Lucknow Expressway) west to Agra, then joining NH-44, the highway that runs north through Delhi and Jammu before climbing into the valley via the Banihal stretch. It is about 1,300 km and 24 to 28 hours of driving once you factor in traffic around Delhi and the mountain roads past Jammu. Almost nobody drives the whole way in one go; if you want the road trip, break it at Delhi or Jammu overnight. On our packages the driving inside the state is handled for you, so the cab is waiting when you land or arrive by rail.
Cheapest and Fastest Way to Reach Kashmir from Kanpur
The cheapest way is the train. A sleeper ticket from Kanpur to Jammu or Katra runs in the low thousands, and even with the onward Vande Bharat or a shared cab you can reach Srinagar for well under the cost of flying. The trade-off is time, budget a full day and a night in transit.
The fastest way is to fly from Lucknow via Delhi, which puts you on the Dal Lake the same afternoon you leave home. If you want the middle ground, take an overnight train to Jammu and ride the morning Vande Bharat into Srinagar: you save a flight fare, sleep through most of the journey, and still arrive fresh. Whichever you pick, the Kashmir tour packages can start from the day you land, so your transfers, hotels and sightseeing are already sorted.
Best Time to Visit Kashmir and Plan Your Trip
Kashmir works across most of the year, and the right month depends on what you want to see. April brings the tulips to the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in Srinagar, the largest tulip garden in Asia. May to August stays cool and green, ideal for Sonamarg and Gulmarg meadows and for families travelling in the school holidays. December to February turns Gulmarg into a ski resort with reliable snow. For a month-by-month breakdown of weather and crowds, see our guide to the best time to visit Kashmir. Once you have your dates, the 6 days and 5 nights plan below covers the classic valley circuit.
Kashmir Tour Package from Kanpur: What the Trip Covers
This 6 days and 5 nights package is built for travellers heading up from Kanpur and the rest of Uttar Pradesh who want the valley without a long itinerary to manage. You arrive at Jammu, spend your first night in Katra with a chance to visit the Vaishno Devi shrine, then move into the valley for Srinagar, Sonamarg and Gulmarg before flying or taking the train home. The pace is easy and the route hits the places most first-time visitors come for.
Kashmir is known for its markets as much as its scenery. Set aside an hour in Srinagar for pashmina shawls, hand-knotted carpets, walnut wood carving and papier-mache, all made locally and worth carrying home. If you want a longer or more tailored trip, browse the full range of Kashmir tour packages or read the wider Kashmir travel guide for ideas on extending your days.

Why Book This Trip with TravelTriangle
This package is customisable end to end: you can add Pahalgam, extend your Srinagar nights, or bundle your connecting flight through your coordinator. You book through a network of verified local agents, pay in easy installments, and get on-ground support once you are in the valley.
A practical tip from our Kashmir on-ground team: aim to land in Srinagar by early afternoon so the airport-to-Dal-Lake transfer and your first shikara ride both happen in daylight, evening arrivals lose you the best of the lake on day one.
