Kerala Ayurveda Tour: Overview
This Kerala Ayurveda package is a 7-night residential treatment stay, not a sightseeing holiday. You live at Kandamkulathy Ayursoukhyam Ayurvedic Village, a Green Leaf classified Ayurveda centre (the Kerala Tourism grade for authentic Ayurveda centres) set in herbal gardens on the bank of the Chalakudy river at Thumboormuzhy, on the road to Athirappilly falls. The village is run by Kandamkulathy Vaidyasala, a family Ayurveda practice with more than 150 years behind it, and every oil and powder used in your treatments is prepared in its own pharmacy.
On day 1 the resort doctor takes your health history, checks your pulse and reads your constitution (Prakriti) in terms of vata, pitta and kapha. From that, the doctor writes your plan. You then get two treatments every day, one in the morning and one in the evening, starting with Abhyanga (a warm medicated-oil massage) and moving through therapies such as Shirodhara, the slow stream of lukewarm oil over the forehead that Kerala is known for. The doctor sees you daily to adjust the plan. Meals follow the diet prescribed for you, and mornings start with yoga and meditation by the river.
Seven nights suits stress and burnout, poor sleep, stiff muscles and anyone trying Kerala Ayurveda for the first time. It is a rejuvenation (Rasayana) programme. Classical Panchakarma, the five-step detox, needs 14 to 21 nights, and the table below shows how to extend this package if the doctor recommends it.
This package is one of our Kerala tour packages. If you are still choosing a centre, our guide to the best Ayurveda resorts in Kerala compares the main ones district by district.

Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival at Athirappilly and Your Doctor's Assessment
You are picked up from Cochin International Airport or Chalakudy railway station and driven to the village, 35 km from the airport along the Chalakudy to Athirappilly road. After a welcome drink you check in and have the rest of the morning to settle and explore the herbal gardens. In the afternoon you meet the doctor. The first consultation covers your health history, any medicines you already take, your sleep and digestion, and a pulse reading that sets your Prakriti. Bring recent medical reports; they make this first session far more useful. The doctor then writes your treatment plan and diet for the week. Dinner is the first of your prescribed meals. Overnight at the resort.
Day 2: Abhyanga and the Start of Your Oil Therapies
The day opens with yoga at 6:30 am, a herbal drink and a light breakfast. Your first morning treatment is Abhyanga, a full-body massage with warm medicated oil picked for your constitution, often followed by a short herbal steam to help the oil work in. In the evening you have your second session, usually a head massage (Shiro Abhyanga). Between the two, rest in your room and keep out of the sun and cold water, which is the standard rule during oil therapies. Later, walk out into the gardens to watch the sun go down over the river. Overnight at the resort.
Day 3: Treatments in the Morning, the Afternoon Free
This is your first leisure afternoon. After the doctor's round and your morning treatment, the rest of the day is yours. Stay in and meditate, practise the yoga sequence from the morning, or, if the doctor agrees, take a short drive up the road to Athirappilly falls, the largest waterfall in Kerala, and Vazhachal a few kilometres beyond. The Thumboormuzhy butterfly garden by the dam is right next to the village for a gentler outing. Entry tickets and transport for outings are paid locally. Your evening treatment follows when you return. Overnight at the resort.
Day 4: Shirodhara for Deep Rest
Today most guests move on to Shirodhara, the therapy people picture when they think of Kerala Ayurveda. You lie still while lukewarm medicated oil flows in a thin, steady stream across your forehead for 30 to 45 minutes. Some doctors use medicated buttermilk instead (Takradhara) for guests who run hot. It is traditionally used for insomnia and a racing mind. Your second treatment is Abhyanga or a Podikizhi herbal-powder massage, depending on your plan. During the morning round the doctor asks how you slept, how your appetite is and whether the oil is sitting well, and adjusts the next three days from your answers. Overnight at the resort.
Day 5: Kizhi Therapy and Sense-Organ Cleansing
Another full day of Ayurvedic care. The therapists may switch to Kizhi, warm linen bundles of herbs or medicated Njavara rice pressed rhythmically over the body to loosen stiff muscles and joints. Today also usually includes the sense-organ cleansing that comes with this package: Netra Tarpanam for the eyes, Karnapooranam for the ears, a nasal therapy and a medicated mouth rinse. By now most guests have stopped checking their phones between sessions, and dinner at 7:30 followed by an early night no longer feels strange. Overnight at the resort.
Day 6: A Day at Leisure by the River
Your second leisure day. After the morning treatment, spend the day doing very little, which is the point. Sit by the river, read, walk the herbal garden and look for the plants that go into your oils, or join an extra meditation session. The Vaidyasala makes its own medicines, so ask if you can see how they are prepared. Nasyam, the nasal therapy, is often scheduled around now if the doctor has added it. Your evening treatment follows. Overnight at the resort.
Day 7: Final Treatments and Your Home-Care Plan
Your last two treatments complete the 12-session programme. At the closing consultation, the doctor reviews how your body has responded and gives you a written diet and lifestyle plan for the weeks ahead, plus any take-home medicines (billed separately). This is the day to ask about the longer programmes if you plan to come back, for example during Karkidakam. Your last therapy is on Day 7 on purpose, so you do not travel on the same day as an oil treatment. Overnight at the resort.
Day 8: Departure
After breakfast you are driven back to Cochin International Airport or Chalakudy station for your onward journey. Leave about 1 hour 15 minutes for the drive to the airport, more in Kochi's evening traffic. You go home with a doctor's plan, a clearer head, and several simple routines, such as oil pulling and a warm-oil self-massage, to carry on at home.

Booking and Health Note
You book by customising this package and comparing quotes from up to three verified agents, then pay in instalments. Ayurveda centres fill up fastest in Karkidakam and from December to February, so lock your dates early for those months.
Ayurvedic treatment supports your regular medical care. It does not replace it. Tell the doctor on Day 1 if you are pregnant, have a heart condition or high blood pressure, have had recent surgery, or take any regular medicine. Some therapies are not given during menstruation, fever or an acute illness, and results vary from person to person.
The resort details, treatment list and classification on this page were checked by our Kerala team against the centre's Kerala Tourism listing and the Vaidyasala's own site in October 2026. Updated October 2026.
