How to Reach Khajjiar From Delhi

Day 1: Delhi to Dalhousie (overnight drive)

You cover most of it overnight while you sleep, which saves a full day and puts you in the hills by morning. Meals and short breaks are at your own pace along the way.

Day 2: Dalhousie arrival and sightseeing

You reach Dalhousie in the morning, check in, have breakfast and rest for a couple of hours. The rest of the day is a gentle loop of the town. See the Satdhara falls, said to hold water with a mild mica content, and the Panchpula waterfall with the memorial to freedom fighter Ajit Singh. Stop at Subhash Baoli, the GPO area around Subhash Chowk, and the stone church of St. John on Mall Road, one of the oldest buildings in Dalhousie. Drive up to Bakrota Hills and the Dain Kund peak, the highest point around the town, for a long look at the Dhauladhar range. Keep the evening free for a slow walk along Mall Road before dinner and your overnight stay.

Day 3: Excursion to Khajjiar (optional Chamba add-on)

After a full breakfast you drive the 24 km to Khajjiar, climbing through the Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary where the road runs under thick deodar. Khajjiar itself is the wide green saucer with a small lake at the centre and the old Khajji Nag temple on its edge, its sanctum carved in wood with serpent figures. Spend the day on the meadow. Walk the tree line, or pay for a horse ride, a zorbing roll or a paragliding flight, all run by local operators at your own cost. If you would rather add a place instead of activities, Chamera Lake sits on the drive out and the town of Chamba, with its Laxmi Narayan temples and the Bhuri Singh Museum, makes a good customisable half-day. Return to Dalhousie for the night.

Day 4: Dalhousie to Delhi (departure)
