Essential information for Tourism in Madurai

The south-central Tamil Nadu state is located on the Vaigai River and is known for its stunning ancient temple. The natural beauty of the picturesque hill station will leave you speechless. Read the handy guide below to remember some essential information before planning a trip.

Culture

The people of Madurai are very hospitable and value their traditions to the fullest. At there, people prefer to wear traditional Indian sarees or Half Sarees. On your visit, you can also follow their traditions and be familiar with the culture.

Temperature

The climate of Madurai is always tropical, depending on the months and seasons. The hottest are May and June, with temperatures between 21 °C and 30 °C. So avoid the summer seasons to protect yourself from severe heat. The ideal time is from December to January, with the least rainfall and pleasant weather.

Accommodation

Numerous hotels and resorts in Madurai will give you a lavish feel. The accommodations can be less during the peak season, so book in advance for low prices. Madurai has many Dharamshala hotels, Bhavan homes, and cottages that offer comfortable rooms, amenities, and facilities for a pleasant stay.

What to Bring

Most of the city is explored on foot, so don’t forget to carry comfortable walking footwear. Also, take sunscreen, a hat, and a water bottle while walking around the city. The most important thing is to bring cash, as some areas don’t have an online payment method. Small purchases also require cash payment.

Shopping in Madurai

Madurai is renowned for its beautiful silk sarees and hand-woven fabrics. Also, explore the options like cotton dhotis for men and traditional blouses for women. Tourists can also get the local handicrafts, spices, and temple-themed trinkets.

Tips For Travelling To Madurai

Pre-book all the hotels and transportation to avoid high prices or getting full due to peak demand. Keep yourself hydrated during the summer season. Bring comfortable clothes and shoes as sightseeing is mainly done on foot. Check the weather conditions during the monsoon season before you set off for a hassle-free trip. Dress modestly while visiting temples or any spiritual place. Don’t forget to explore the top attractions such as Meenakshi Amman Temple, Arulmigu Koodal Azhagar Temple, Gandhi Memorial Museum, Thirumalai Nayakkar Palace, etc. Try the local dishes of Madurai, such as parottas, Idli, and Dosa. Keep an eye on your belongings, especially in crowded areas. Indulge in the local culture and festivals of this place. Use auto-rickshaws, taxis or local buses to get around the Madurai.

Tapas's 5 days trip to Madurai

We recently had a wonderful trip to Mysore and Coorg, and it turned out to be a truly memorable experience. We were fortunate to explore a variety of scenic locations, each more breathtaking than the last, and we indulged in delicious local cuisine that gave us a true taste of the region's flavors. A big part of our enjoyable experience was thanks to our trip driver, Sunil, who was extremely professional throughout the journey. He ensured we covered all the places listed in the itinerary and even shared interesting insights about the destinations. His dedication and pleasant demeanor added great value to our trip. The resort we stayed at was another highlight of our vacation. Nestled amidst the serene woods, it offered stunning views that made for a perfect retreat from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The food served at the resort was equally delightful, offering a wide range of flavors that satisfied our palate. However, while the trip itself was fantastic, I want to share some feedback regarding the booking experience. Our travel agent, Kishan from Bookitforgetit, was very proactive and responsive before we booked the trip. Unfortunately, after the booking was finalized, I found myself repeatedly following up for crucial details such as the hotel voucher, payment confirmations, and driver information. This lack of consistent communication and post-booking support was a bit disappointing. My humble request to Travel Triangle is to ensure that better customer service is provided after the booking process is complete. It’s crucial to maintain the same level of attentiveness throughout the entire experience. While the trip itself was great, the post-booking service left room for improvement. I hope this feedback helps improve future experiences for travelers like us.

Ponnampriyanka's 4 days trip to Madurai

Our family had a memorable trip to Madurai and Rameshwaram. Kiran was very helpful with designing our itinerary. Her prompt response to my requirements is greatly appreciated. Whilst we were happy with the customer service we received, the hotels chosen as part of the booking werent too comfortable. Perhaps, better choice hotels may need to be made available to customers to choose from. Abdul kalam house, meenakshi temple, ramanathaswamy temple, and Dhanushkodi
