Things To Do In Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh, the heartland of India, is steeped in a rich history, vibrant culture, and diverse landscapes.

This northern state is not only renowned for its historical landmarks but also for its culinary delights and spiritual significance. Whether you are an adventurer, a history enthusiast, or someone looking to immerse yourself in the local culture, there are countless activities to enjoy in Uttar Pradesh that cater to every traveller's interests. Each experience offers a unique narrative and connection to the rich tapestry of Indian culture and heritage. Whether you seek adventure, spirituality, or culinary experiences, Uttar Pradesh has something for everyone. Here’s a list of all the things you must do while in the city.

    1. Explore the Historical Wonders

One of the most iconic activities to do in Uttar Pradesh is visiting the magnificent Taj Mahal in Agra. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a stunning marble mausoleum built by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal. A sunrise visit offers breathtaking views, while exploring the intricate designs and gardens surrounding the monument can leave you mesmerised. Another gem in Agra is the Agra Fort, also a UNESCO World Heritage site. This red sandstone fortress boasts impressive architecture and significant historical importance. Taking a guided tour can provide insights into the lives of emperors and the fort's strategic importance.

    2. Spiritual Journeys

For those interested in spirituality, Varanasi, one of the oldest cities in the world, offers a unique and enriching experience. The ghats along the Ganges River are perfect for witnessing the mesmerizing rituals of life and death. Participating in a sunrise boat ride or attending the Ganga Aarti can be a transformative experience. Additionally, visiting Sarnath, where Buddha gave his first sermon, adds a layer of spiritual significance to your journey.

    3. Nature and Wildlife Expeditions

Uttar Pradesh is not just about historical and spiritual sites; it also has beautiful natural landscapes. The Dudhwa National Park, located on the Indo-Nepal border, is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts. Here, you can embark on safaris to spot tigers, leopards, and various species of birds in their natural habitat. This experience adds a wonderful blend of adventure to your list of activities to do in Uttar Pradesh.

    4. Cultural Experiences

Immerse yourself in the local culture by enjoying the vibrant fairs and festivals. The Kumbh Mela, held every 12 years, attracts millions of pilgrims from around the world. Even if your visit doesn’t coincide with the Kumbh, local festivals like Diwali and Holi are celebrated with great fervour, providing a colourful glimpse into Indian traditions. Don’t forget to visit the small towns like Mathura and Vrindavan, where you can explore temples dedicated to Lord Krishna. The local handicrafts and cuisine here are simply delightful. You can also consider taking a cooking class to learn how to make traditional dishes, an enjoyable activity that allows you to take a piece of Uttar Pradesh back home with you.

    5. Culinary Delights

No trip to Uttar Pradesh is complete without indulging in its culinary offerings. From street food to fine dining, the state is known for its delicious kebabs, chaat, and sweets like jalebi and peda. Exploring the bustling food markets, especially in cities like Lucknow and Kanpur, can be an unforgettable experience for food lovers.

Srivalli's 4 days trip to Uttar Pradesh

I agree the Arrangements were good but information is not passed on properly and promised for driver being available for any extra local trips but denied post start of trip … giving all reasons about driver working for hours now which should have been discussed and not agreed when requested for the driver to be available for local trips after the promised trips. Too much of attitude and no manners on how to speak or covey things to clients. Please work on your communication

Tejaswee's 5 days trip to Uttar Pradesh

Overall Trip Experience: I had a good experience overall. The travel agent, Abhishek, was always available and responsive whenever I needed assistance. This trip was planned for my parents and grandmother, and I appreciate the effort that went into organizing it. Areas for Improvement: Cab Driver Changes: One of the major issues I encountered was the frequent changing of cab drivers (4-5 times during the 5-day trip). This created confusion, especially for my parents and grandmother, as they had to adjust to new drivers each time. It would be helpful if the same driver could be assigned for the entire duration of the trip or at least for longer periods. Traffic and Local Insights: While traveling from Varanasi to Prayagraj and then to Ayodhya, the cab got stuck in heavy traffic, which was a bit frustrating. Since this was during the Kumbh Snan period, I understand that there were challenges, but it would have been beneficial if the local drivers provided tips on avoiding crowded routes or traffic hotspots. Local advice could have helped avoid delays and made the trip smoother. Positive Highlights: Apart from the challenges with the drivers and traffic, the overall experience was enjoyable. Kudos to Abhishek, the travel agent, who was always there when needed and made sure everything else went smoothly.
