How To Reach Thimphu From Guwahati

By Air: There are no direct Guwahati to Thimphu flights. Not only does Thimphu lack an airport, to travel to even Paro from Guwahati, one has to first fly to Kolkata or Bagdogra airport near Siliguri and from there take another flight to Paro. This makes traveling from Guwahati to Thimphu by air difficult.

By Road: Going from Guwahati to Thimphu by road is the easiest method. The route from Guwahati to Thimphu via Rangia takes only around 3 hours by car. The distance from Guwahati to Bhutan border is around 150 kilometers with the use of National Highway 27. One can either enter Bhutan by Gelephu or by Samdrup Jongkhar, which is closer. Guwahati to Thimphu distance is a bit more, with 495 kilometers between the two cities, which takes approximately 10 hours and 45 minutes to travel in total.

By Rail: There is no direct railway line between Thimphu and Guwahati. To travel from Guwahati to Thimphu by train, one has to take the day train or overnight train to either Siliguri or Falakata. From there they can make use of a car or taxi to travel the remaining distance to the Bhutan border and then to Thimphu.
