Climate in Thimphu

Summer Season in Thimphu

In summer, the Thimphu temperature varies between 15°C to 30°C throughout. Although the latter parts of summer are drenched in the early south-western monsoons, the beginning of it is as pleasant as it gets. Bhutan in April is pretty as a picture, with the warmth of the sun just setting in and the rhododendrons covering the valleys with their bright red colours. Thimphu, located on a lower altitude than the northern parts, experiences quite a warm and sunny temperature as the spring advances well into summer. Bhutan weather in April still has a slight chill in the air and the temperature is around 10°C. This is actually the best time to visit the city. Thimphu weather in May is probably the hottest, till the monsoon clouds blow into the Bhutanese sky.

Monsoon Season in Thimphu

Typically during the summer months, Thimphu experiences the monsoon season. Running from May to September, showers from the Southwest Monsoon winds, ensure warm and relatively humid climate. During this time, it is not quite the best place to travel, as continuous days of rainfall ensure that the hilly region suffers from landslides. Thimphu weather experiences moderately high temperatures in the morning and the comparatively lower temperatures at night. Following the wet season, the rest of the year in Thimphu is considerably dryer, as autumn enters the region. For anyone with a Thimphu travel guide, they are aware that Thimphu weather in September and October is favourable for tourists. Visitors have clear skies and can enjoy the beautiful scenery in the region, with the temperature hardly ever crossing more than 20 degrees. The bitter cold of winter does not set in yet, making it pleasant climate for trekking.

Winter Season in Thimphu

For those with a sporty attitude, winter is a good time to visit Thimphu as well. If a person enjoys solitude, then Thimphu weather in December, though cold, is not something cannot be tolerated. The temperature varies between -5 to 10 degrees throughout the day, and although it may go below that, on particularly cold nights, it remains a good time to visit. The only problem of Thimphu in winter is that with the onset of winter, in late November, December, January and February, the roads face the problem of fog, making it a dangerous time to travel at night. Although snowfall in Thimphu is not that common, there are some during the Yuletide season.

Bobby's 4 days trip to Thimphu

I had specifically asked for 4 star properties and was quoted amount for the same. Lemon Tree thimpu is a 3 star property as per google and other major websites and Lemon Tree manager also said it is a 3 star property. Valley Travels passes it off as a 4 star Property. In Paro we were changed from Tashi Namgay, a 4 star property to tiger's Nest at the last minute. Tiger's Nest is a very old Property without proper plumbing and very far off from Airport as well as city center.

Ketan's 6 days trip to Thimphu

It was a good experience with BINC Bhutan. They provided Good hotels with upgrades wherever possible. All good places were recommended and covered. Very effective co-ordination by BINC team which made the visit very smooth and hassle-free. Some facts not in control of the agents - No role of the compulsory guide-not worth, most of the places have high entry fees (mostly not worth keeping in mind the place). Someone visited Sikkim/North-East may find Bhutan similar to that, so not all places are worth-visiting. Overall good experience. I recommend BINC.
