Kolkata To Thimphu Distance

By AirBy RoadBy TrainBy Sea
Kolkata to Thimphu3.0 hours---

Kolkata is the closest Indian metro city to Thimphu. Being the capital of West Bengal and the most important city in eastern India, Kolkata is well-connected with various international destinations. Bhutan is no exception. In fact, among all the other major cities of India, the most convenient transport options exist from Kolkata to Thimphu. Here are the different ways of how to go to Thimphu from Kolkata, explained in details.

By Air: Kolkata is the only airport that has regular flights to Bhutan. Kolkata to Thimphu flights actually land at Paro, which is an hour’s drive away from the capital. Paro is the only international airport in Bhutan and receives flights every day from numerous international locations like Kathmandu and Bangkok as well. Kolkata to Thimphu by air takes 3 hours in total – 1.30 hours from Kolkata to Paro and another 1.30 hours to drive from Paro to Thimphu.

By Road: Kolkata to Thimphu distance is around 875 kilometers via NH12, and this is a very commonly used route by those who want to avoid the flight for some reason. There is Kolkata to Thimphu bus service from the Esplanade area in Kolkata which leaves every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 7 PM. These buses take 22 hours 30 minutes to go from Kolkata to Thimphu by road. A car trip will also take nearly the same amount of time. The vehicles will enter Bhutan at the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border and from there drive up the remaining 165 kilometers to Thimphu.

By Rail: One cannot go from Kolkata to Thimphu by train because there are no networks. However, trains go till New Alipurduar or Hasimara stations in North Bengal which are very close to the Bhutan border. There are buses, taxis, and autos available till Phuentsholing, from where the tourists can take another transport to reach Thimphu.

    • Trip to Bhutan

I have previously travelled to thailand with my wife using travel triangle app. You guys are well organised and make stay comfortable during holidays. So is my bhutan trip , so i will give 5/5 star to travel triangle for this. Mostly will contact you later this year for Europe package. Bhutan was a nature's gift to humans. Paro was the most beautiful city. it has peace, Beauty, adventure trek, culture etc . Our hotel sinchulla resort in paro was too good. Himavat travels made our trip heckless and stay pleasant. They were just one call away. All the things were well organised. Our driver Mr Binod chetri was a humble soul. He guided us during the whole trip and made us comfortable. Miss Prema and Pinki of himawat were very helpful. Only bad memory to my trip is hotel Om Tara of Thimpu whose services were poor and they were rude to us. Food was not at all good and they didnt even clean the room. Towels were not even changed on futher request. So for that i have to give days of thimpu zero stars. otherwise our trip was good.

    • Trip to Bhutan

Just returned from the Bhutan Trip today.I would like to inform you about my experience of the trip. Firstly, I was promised a 3 star hotel for the trip. My first hotel at Thimpu was Hotel Golden Roots which actually was a NO Star Hotel. Initially we were allotted 1 big and another a small dingy room. Both the rooms were dirty and had bed sheets with dirty marks on them. Our dream of a nice holiday were shattered there and then. The staff there refused to change the bed sheets. I had to call your agent Upashna. I told her to either shift us to another hotel or we are going to shift ourselves. After haggling for about an hour or so, she got both the rooms of the same size and also got the rooms cleaned as well and the bed sheets changed too. I requested Upashna to make sure that the other two hotels are not the same. However, Hotel Kingaling too was a No Star Hotel and the rooms given to us were in a quite in an odd location. We had to go one floor down the ground loor and the stairs were quite steep. I myself was about to fall on the first day, but was saved as my daughter was just behind me. There after I told the hotel staff to give us rooms on the ground floor. I called up Upashna again and asked her as to why she was hell bent on spoiling my family vacation. She assured me that the rooms shall be changed the next day and we were shifted to rooms on the ground floor the next day. The problem in Hotel Kingaling was, that the provisions provided here were all rationed. For example, if we asked for coffee sachets the in room, we were told that this was all that could be provided. Even the small soaps provided were rationed. The sweet dish too was rationed, one piece of Gulab jamun per person. The third Hotel, Tashi Phuntsok was ACTUALLY a 3 star hotel and we really enjoyed our stay there. It would be pertinent to add here that this hotel was requested by me and I had to pay Rs.2000/- extra than the original invoice of Rs. 175000/- with some other so called 3 star hotel. I would also like to add here that otherwise the staff at all these three hotels was very nice. Basically, I feel cheated and let down by the kind of hotels promised and actually provided to me. Time and again I had told you to ensure that we have a good holiday by providing us good hotels and even in the invoice were promised 3 star / 3 star deluxe hotels. By no means were we provided the amenities as promised. I had also kept Vrinda in the loop so that everything is to her knowledge. Rajesh Narula. Mob No; 9810738520

Bhutan travel experience was amazing, everything was just perfect. "Way of Bhutan" team overall was SUPERB, starting from co-ordinator "Sharmila" who has given personal attention for every minute details and kept us inform instantly all the time. Guide arranged was extremely efficient, polite and knowledgeable. Driver was jolly nature and perfect to accompany for 6 days travel. Vehicle arranged was also perfect for 7 members tour. Hotels arranged was nice and according to place. Punakha hotel had some small observations which if taken care will be GOOD.

    • Trip to Bhutan

We had a very good travel experience in Bhutan. Thanks to Deya Bhutan travels and Hema for arranging all facilities for us. The Hotels were nice and our Driver Mr. Kinley Tshering was a real nice person and an equally good driver. There was a bit of problem with the vehicle on our return day. But Hema personally monitored the situation and it was resolved within 5 min and we could board our flight on time. Out of all the quotations i received for my bhutan trip, deya bhutan travles had the lowest number of trip sells but based on public review i trusted upon it and to my great pleasure we were hosted so well. Thanks again for making our trip memorable.

    • Trip to Bhutan

It was great to travel with Bhutan inc, they provided best services at a resonable rate. The rooms where far better than expected & the guide blended with the group quite easily. It was a 6 day tour and bhutan inc did no compromise on the services promised, however the agency could have provided a more interesting itinerary...... we had longer travel and less sightseeings ( few sightseeing were shut for renovation ). Apart from that Bhutan inc gave us a beautiful vacation.
