How To Reach Thimphu From Delhi

By Air: Thimphu may be the capital of Bhutan, but as of yet, there is no airport in the city. However, having the number of attractions that it does, people still fly into Paro, where Bhutan's main airport is located. There are several flights from Delhi to Thimphu, Bhutan, or rather Paro, however, most of them have an unnecessarily long layover in Bangkok or even Kathmandu. There are easier ways to travel to Thimphu from Delhi, such as flying to Kolkata, from where getting a plane to Paro is a matter of time with regular flights from the capital of West Bengal, which usually take 1.30 hours, and then from Paro they can make use of cars or taxis to travel the remaining distance to Thimphu.

By Road: Travelling from Delhi to Thimphu by road is comparatively a long journey, but one that is still possible. The road distance between Delhi to Thimphu is 1774 kilometer journey which takes around 32 hours on the road. Those traveling by road will need to pay tolls as they will cross Uttar Pradesh and Bihar before entering West Bengal. They can use the Jaigaon-Phuentsholing border entry to enter Bhutan, from where they can make the car journey to Thimphu.

By Rail: While there is no direct rail-line connecting Delhi and Thimphu, for people who want to travel by train from the Indian Capital there are options. They can take the train from Delhi to Kolkata, from where they can go to Hasimara. From there they can cross the border at Phuentsholing and travel the rest of the way by car or taxi to Thimphu.
