About Art Pavilion In Zagreb

Constructed in the year 1897, the Art Pavilion, Zagreb is the oldest art gallery in the south-eastern Europe. And, it is the only gallery in Zagreb that has been built with a purpose to accommodate large-scale exhibitions. Though, the gallery owns a total area of about 600 meter square, it does not have an established display; for, the Art Pavilion specializes in one-off solo and group exhibitions by both local and foreign artists. It represents the work of art movements and other notable oeuvres belonging to all styles and periods.

History of Art Pavilion

The Art Pavilion, Zagreb has been a prestigious exhibition venue since its grab opening in the year 1898. Originally constructed as a temporary building of the pavilion for the exhibition of works of Croatian artists in Budapest in the year 1896, this pavilion was moved to Zagreb with its contemporary architecture and then got constructed by renowned architects- F. Fellner and F. Helmer. The original idea of the gallery was presented by a Croatian painter- Vlaho Bukovac.

Attractions of Art Pavilion

Playing a pivotal role in the formation and development of cultural awareness amongst its visitors, the Art Pavilion in Zagreb has also been the focal point in order to promote modern trends and new values during the 20th century. The gallery has, till now, organized somewhere about 700 exhibitions of artists including, Henry Moore, George Grosz, Andy Warhol, Mimmo Rotella, Auguste Rodin, and other along with the Earth Group collective. The gallery has also published a CD-ROM for a virtual tour of exhibition in the year 2005.
