Museum of Broken Relationships in Zagreb, Croatia

History

The Museum of Broken Relationships Zagreb was the idea of two artists based out of Zagreb. Olinka Vištica and Dražen Grubiši?. While the former is a film producer, the latter is a sculptor. The museum came into the picture when their four-year-old relationship came to an end in the year 2003. Both of them had this joke going about this idea. This is when the work began and the idea transformed into reality three years later in 2006. The items of the initial exhibition were donated by their friends and were shown as a part of the 41st Zagreb Salon in Glyptotheque Zagreb.

Attractions

The Museum of Broken Relationships is divided into 3 segments primarily: Material, Visual, and Confessional. The material has the items of the former loves like letters, any photographs, or messages. The dates and the location of the items are recorded with descriptions. The virtual part of the museum is the uploading of images and documents by the donors. The people making donations here have a choice of the visibility of their collection to the public. The last part of the museum is the Confessional where a person can record or store their items or messages in intimate spaces that are private. It is a sort of confessional where your memories are just for you to see.
