Hiking in Thessaloniki, Thailand

The best of the long distance routes for hiking in Thessaloniki are Elia Beach to Agios Pavlos, the trail to Neos Marmaras, Porto Carras to Ampelones. An exciting trek is around Sykia, which takes the hikers around the ridge over the city while heading north. Most of these tours will take one through gorgeous countryside, across vineyards and olive gardens, woodlands and lush meadows, arresting sea beaches and forested woodlands.

Hiking from Thessaloniki can also be done in the Seih Sou forest. Only 15 minutes from the city centre, it lies in the Saint Paul district. The path crisscrosses through numerous trees and grasslands. It is like the city’s own little patch of woods, away from the noise and crowd, but not too far away from all the facilities of an urban centre.

If one is more of a city person, to suit one’s palate, it is a good idea to take a walking tour of the museums or the historical sites, checking off one destination after another. Tsimiski Street is a great place to walk the city, stopping at shops for retail therapy and bars for drinking streaks. A walk in the Ano Poli area, the old part of the town from Olympiados Street up to the White Castle is also a must-do if one wants to grasp the real vibe of old-school Thessaloniki.
