About Santorini Tourism
Famed for its jaw-dropping landscapes, destinations weddings, beautiful sunset views, and an active volcano, Santorini is a perfect holiday destination for an explorer. With a bounty of other offerings, including multi-coloured beaches, hot springs and a lot more, Santorini tourism is something one can’t afford to miss out on! Santorini Island is as blue as the Aegean Sea where it is situated and even more beautiful in real than its pictures. Part of the famous Cyclades Archipelago southeast of Greece on the uninhabited region of Delos, known as the birthplace of Greek God Apollo, this place is home to some of the most exquisite locations you will see in a lifetime, and also some of the best archaeological ruins.
History of Santorini:
Built over the ancient city of Thera, the city of Santorini has one of the beautiful histories about the struggle between human and nature. The island used to be the capital of the Minoan Civilization; however in around 1500 B.C., the city became prey to one of the most ferocious volcanic eruptions in the human history, and people emerged as true fighters while finding ways to survive in that terrible situation. Post that, the island got resettled around the 9th century, and got its Christian identity under the Byzantine kingdom. And later, it got its name ‘Santorini’ by Western European Catholic Crusaders.
Best Cuisines in Santorini:
Being a traveller’s true delight in every sense, Santorini serves many delicious cuisines to treat your taste buds to a tantalizing experience. When you are on an excursion to this enticing destination, do gorge on some of the best cuisines, like: Fava me Koukia, Tomato Gefthedes, Saganaki, Roasted Greek Lamb, Moussaka and more. To savour the sumptuous delicacies, stop by the famous restaurants, Selene, 1800, Ginger Sushi, Nichteri and some other food joints.
Honeymoon in Santorini:
While on an escape amids the iconic whitewashed houses in Santorini with your partner, you can have one of the amazing times of your life. Enjoy a honeymoon sojourn here while enjoying luxury, jumping off into the Mediterranean waters, cherishing the breathtaking sunsets, and snapping some splendid views that will leave an imprint on your soul for life. To make the most of your honeymoon, take our recommendation and do visit to places, like: Oia, Imerovigli and Fira villages for magnificent architecture and picturesque views, the world-famous Red Beach, Cape Columbo Beach and more.
Major Festivals in Santorini:
Fond of art, the locals of Santorini are always eager to combine their love for this enticing island, and celebrate it with quite fervour through numerous cultural events and festivals. As you hop on a voyage to this magnificent place, grab a chance to attend events and festivals, such as Ifestia, Santorini Jazz, International Music Festival and more.
Beaches in Santorini:
It is the collection of mesmerising beaches that has made Santorini travel such a romantic thing to do with your partner. They are different than your usual sun and sand beaches. Here, they are red or black because of volcanic activities of centuries, often cut-off with towering cliffs on one side. The Red Beach is the most spectacular one of Santorini beaches, and the water here is warm like hot springs. Two beaches Perissa and Kamari are located side by side in the southeast of the island, separated by the enormous rock Mesa Vouno. Both of them have dark greyish-black sand and have great arrangements for water sports. Visit Cape Columbo for the most isolated and serene beach on the island and visit Perivolos for the most happening one.
Museums in Santorini:
For an island of 76 sq km, Santorini has some brilliant museums to flaunt. The Museum of Prehistoric Thira is one of the most important in entire Greece. The Archaeological Museum of Fira reflects the history and evolution of human settlement in the island, while the Naval Museum of Oia highlights the glorious maritime past of Greek Navy. Do not miss the Wine Museum and the change to get to know the past and present of the legendary local wine. You will get to taste some as well.
Here are the best places you must visit to during your holidays in Santorini.
Fira, pronounced as Thira, is the beautiful capital of Santorini, Greece and is dotted with aesthetically pleasant series of blue and whitewashed houses, terraces, cafes, souvenir shops and little squares amidst winding lanes. Visit the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Museum of Prehistoric Thira displaying paintings, ceramics and many collections dating back to the Bronze Age.
About some 3600 years ago, a massive volcanic eruption blew off the centre of the island and caused a crater which the sea later filled-in with the brilliant blue water. The Caldera and the lake it formed still experiences volcanic activities in the Kameni Islands at its centre, where there are hot springs. Cruising in the Caldera is a not-to-miss attraction of Santorini tourism.
3. Red Beach:
Red Beach looks exactly what its name suggests. Walled up on one side with a colossal red cliff and the blue water of Aegean on the other side, Red Beach is the premier seaside location – which is saying something given the whole of Santorini Island, Greece is an island.
Near the Red Beach is the archaeological site of the Akrotiri settlement, which got buried under the volcanic lava and ash in the 16th century BC. Studies and excavations show that Santorini was home to a flourishing civilization, with probable trade relations with Africa and other countries. You can see most of its findings in the National Archaeological Museum in Athens. However, the actual site here, near the modern Santorini village of Akrotiri, is a sight to behold.
5. Ancient Thera:
Located on the southeast coast, Ancient Thera dates back to the 9th century BC. There are remnants of both Hellenistic and Roman architecture, as well as some early-Byzantine ones. If you have seen some of them in the museum in Fira, then visiting this site will make it a complete circle.

If you draw a straight line on the map, Santorini location is 5438 km away from India. But airlines from India do not follow this route. There are no direct flights to Santorini from India. In fact, there are no direct flights to Athens either. However, the Santorini National Airport located in Kamani village, which is well-connected to Athens and other places in Europe, provides regular flight services. Flights from Delhi or Mumbai take at least 10 hours 30 minutes to reach Athens and that too via some other city in Europe. Turkish Airlines, Gulf Air, Etihad and Qatar have the best flights to Athens. From the Greek capital, you can get cheap flights to Santorini operated by Aegean Airlines and Olympic Airways. In good weather conditions, the flights take around 45 minutes to reach. The peak season has more than 10 flights to Santorini every day. In July and August, one can fly in from Thessaloniki as well.
Piraeus port in Athens has regular ferries to Athinios port of Santorini everyday. This is a much easier option than air travel, and the fare of ferries is also less than air tickets to Santorini. There are at least 4 ferries between Athens and Santorini in the summer months. Fares are between 20-70 Euros. The two best options are Blue Star and Hellenic Seaways. Blue Star leaves at 7:25am every day of the year and takes 8 hours to reach Santorini via some other islands like Paros and Naxos. It is more luxurious, and during the peak season have night ferries on three nights of the week. Hellenic Seaways have a daily ferry leaving at 7am just like Blue Star. This one is much faster and takes only 5 hours, but the ride can be really bumpy. Many Mediterranean cruises go via Santorini as well.

Trip to EuropeAthens Hotel Marina Athens To start off with Athens is a beautiful city with SOME beautiful people there. Our driver Mr. Konstatino was truly a gentleman, who arrived at the airport much before the scheduled time. He was kind enough to wait for us to exit the arrivals gates. He drove us to our hotel Marina Hotel, Voulgari. Speaking of the Hotel, although the hotel was pretty good in terms of ambiance and rooms, we were kind of worried about the kind of neighborhood. Why? Well, the place was filled with immigrants from all possible countries, Bangladesh, Pakistan and our own country India. These people would hover around the hotel and i felt worried as i was out with my wife. Our security and was kind of compromised. A BIG NO-NO FOR THE LOCATION! The hotel food was not really great, they had very fewer options when it came to breakfast. The room service was prompt, our rooms were tidy up on a daily basis. We really loved the Hopp-on and Hop-off tour that was organised by the agency. Naxos Hotel Alkyoni This was really one of the best hotels that we have ever stayed in! The place, food, staff, ambiance each and everything was way beyond our expectations. Amazing experience, we loved the kind of options they provided us for breakfast. The location was also perfect, right beside the beach. where one could literally see the beach from the hotel balcony. Loved the day tour and sunset temple. The property is located almost 1.5-2km from the Naxos port. A must-visit place in case you visit Naxos. Santorini Hotel Olympic. We had not-so-good experience when it was about Santorini. The hotel location (Mesaria) and must-visit sites are located too far away. More than 5kms away from Fira and almost 17-18 km from Oia. The public transport on the entire island is pathetic. Although they have buses scheduled every half an hour, they hardly follow the time table and sometimes they buses don't even bother to stop at the stops, they'll just ignore you and pass by. Our marriage anniversary was spoiled because of this public transport issue. Again a NO-NO for my side, I'd any day prefer Naxos over Santorini. What went wrong? The hotel selection in Santorini and Athens Insufficient information about some basic things like Public transport. We would have loved it if we could get the prompt messages throughout the trip (instead of waiting for us to ask something) As a travel agent, one must know about public transport, and should tell the customer in advance instead of saying "you should have asked me". It was our first time and we were expecting a lot from the agent. We were never informed about the International driving license Indian's would require to hire a bike at Santorini. A little intimation would have saved our efforts in searching buses and waiting at stops for the bus to arrive. Glad we had a sim card which helped us to navigate alot.. without that it would've been a nightmare for us to explore the city on our own.
Trip to EuropeIn Our honeymoon trip to santorini. From the visa process to our guides, and from the sites to our hotels and all of the travel in between, it was apparent that our itinerary was carefully hand-crafted to suit the specific curiosities of our excursion. Especially lot of thanx to Duniya safari staff mayuri for all the arrangements & cooperation through out our tour. Pleasant drivers , our guides spoke English fluently, and each guide knew the finer details of their city (including what and where to eat!), as well as the sites we visited. Our hotels never failed impress - all of them were located in safe, lively, accessible areas of town. Not only did this company provide eco friendly travel, they provided such stress-free travel that even the most apprehensive traveler would feel comfortable upon arrival under the wings of this tour company. I will choose Duniya safari for my next trip.
Trip to SantoriniOur Greece tour was superb. We had a fantastic time in all three cities Athens, Mykonos and Santorini. Thanks to Mayuri for the timely response and helping us in coordinating the tour. She was available to help us even at odd times. The one problem we faced was with the hotel manager behaviour which was rude in mykonos and the facilities given by them was not upto 4 star. We had to wait for 4 hours to get the room. Otherwise the view from hotel was awesome. We had a wonderful stay in Athens and Santorini. Both were located at the prime location i.e accessible to local restaurants, bus stops and metro. Thanks to Duniya Safari and travel triangle for making this a memorable trip for us.
Trip to SantoriniI’ll start by summing it up: Everything of our trip to Greece was exceptional and beyond our expectations. Memorable Vacations (my travel agent) and Travel Triangle have made it extra memorable and special for us. Nisar and Krishna Sir from Memorable Vacations and Shilpa from TT, were extremely courteous and have taken extra care of all our requests and customisations. Nisar customised everything according to our wishes. He has taken care of everything from hotels to transfers to internal tours, etc. all while keeping our budget in mind. The hotels at all the places (Athens, Mykonos and Santorini) were very very good. The ones at Mykonos and Santorini were superlative in their location and view. The siteseeings and islands visits were all breathtaking with extremly eye catching views. Of course Greece is one of the most beautiful country of Europe so it tends to be little expensive. But if one can plan this trip 4-5 months in advance, then it can be booked at quite reasonable price. Food wise, Greece is a paradise for Non-Veg lovers. Greek Salad, Cakes & Bakes and Greek Yogurts are out of the world. Overall this trip was totally satisfying for us in all sense. In the entire trip we have not faced with any unpleasant experience. I’ll like to recommend Memorable Vactions (particularly Nisar
Trip to New ZealandThe overall trip was good, it was well planned by the tour operator, all the documents for trip were given to us which made us little relax during trip, best part was these people were always in touch with us during the trip, few hotels given to us were really awesome but at few places, it could have been slightly better, it was a great memory for us, really Happy. best memories will be Jungfrau in Switzerland and sunset in Santorini
Trip to SantoriniWe had another wonderful trip to Europe. This was our 2nd time to Europe and last travel was also taken in association with TT. We had our entire tour customised as per our preferences. And we will book again for next trip soon. Heartfelt thanks to everyone involved ! Best part of the trip was our hotel in Mykonos and Santorini. Just Magnificent !
Trip to SantoriniWe just returned from our trip and had an amazing time, would like to thank you Shubham for the same. The hotels you booked were superb. They all were in the best possible location both in terms of ease of transport and the view. Also, your activeness to get us the boarding pass on return flight is much appreciated. Would also like to say that we took a semi private sail boat ride in Santorini and would highly recommend it to your customers.the company name is angel sailing and it was the best time we had. Just a small suggestion though, if possible avoid booking flights on Egypt Air . We had a not so pleasant experience in all our 4 connecting flights through them . But again ,thank you so much for the wonderful experience.
Trip to SantoriniTo an awesome Greece trip arranged by a perfect trip planner! This was my wifes and my first trip outside of India and we wanted it to be planned by an agent rather than doing everything by ourselves. I went with Travel Triangle through which I got in touch with StreetRomeo and Mr Jigar. Thats where started a journey which would make our trip effortlessly awesome! I am a very picky person and i research a lot on the web as well. I also have a lot of questions always. Jigar was always available!! Almost 24/7 - the guy doesn't sleep it seems! He was constantly in touch with me through bookings and through our daily plans. Everything was very professional right from day 1 with booking.. vouchers..day wise plan etc. Everyday Jigar would send us the details for the next day including driver details..points to visit..and others Jigar also handpicked perfect hotels as per our priorities...mine was good hospitality and location..Jigar made sure both were met! Me and my wife went on the following itenary:- 1) 2 days in Athens including hop on hop off tour 2) Athens to Meteora - 2 days including sunset and half day tour 3) 3 days in Santorini Every hotel.. every tour was amazing! We loved the locations..the hospitality of each of our hotels all suggested by Jigar 1) Athens - Hotel Athens Atrium 2) Meteora - Oikia Guesthouse 3) Santorini - Hotel Nemesis Special thanks to Jigar and Travel Triangle for making memories and making such wonderful trips and moreover being available always for anything! I totally recommend StreetRomeo and Jigar for anyone who wants to travel anywhere abroad! Cheers! - Vikram R

Fira, Oia or Imerovigl have the best romantic spots in all of Santorini. Oia is quite and serene, Fira is more outgoing and Imerovigli is a bit of both worlds.
If you trip is of 2-3 days, make sure you spend some time in the capital Fira, the best beaches, visit the site of Akrotiri and taste the local cuisine and wine.
From April to November, the Mediterranean climate is at its best with a dry, warm summer and little to no rain. You can visit during June-July for the most amount of sun.
There are flights from Athens which take only 30-45 minutes, but the ferries from Piraeus Port often cost half of what the airlines charge. If you catch the fastest ferry by Superjet, you will be there in 5 hours and also get to enjoy the beauty of the sea.
