How to Reach Mangalore

Lying on the backwaters of the Netravati and Gurupura Rivers, Mangalore is a port city on the Arabian Sea and is one of the major ports of India.

Being a popular hideaway on the Malabar Coast, the scintillating landscape of this coastal town is crammed with the characteristic coconut palms along with rolling hills, and gurgling streams flowing into the sea. Adding to its beauty are the red-tile roof buildings which make a visit to this place even more enchanting. Replete with tropical climate, breathtaking backwaters of Netravati and Gurupura rivers, seafood dishes, British and Portuguese charm, enjoying your leisure time at any Mangalore location is quite a treat.

Mangalore is well-connected by road, rail, and air with the rest of India. And, with our how to reach Mangalore guide you may easily enjoy your excursion to this beautiful port city while savouring its unique charm for a fascinating experience.

Just 18 kms away from the heart of the city, the nearest airport to Mangalore is located at Kenjar Bajpe. It takes just 25 minutes to ride from the main city to the airport. Mangalore International Airport India is also the second international airport of the Karnataka state. With numerous financial hubs like Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Hyderabad, Goa, and Delhi being connected via domestic airlines, while foreign cities like Dubai, Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Muscat, Dammam, Doha, and Bahrain connected through the international segment on weekly and bi-weekly basis, make this place quite accessible. Maximum number of flights to Mangalore operate from Bangalore and Mumbai. From Bangalore to Mangalore, there are four to seven flights every day, while from Mumbai there are five to six flights scheduled for a day. However, the frequency of flights to Mangalore from Dubai has been increased to five times a week.

Located at Hampankatta in the heart of the city, Mangalore Central is a terminus, and is used only by the trains which terminate at Mangalore. And thus, most of the long distance trains interconnected with different cities stops here at Mangalore Junction. A few of major trains like Yesvantpur-Karwar Express and KSR Bengaluru City-Kannur Express makes it easier to cover Bangalore to Mangalore distance in a short duration. While to cover a distance from Mumbai to Mangalore, you have to take Mumbai LTT-Mangalore Junction.

Conveniently located about 395 kms to the South of Goa and 347 kms due west of Bangalore with National Highways connecting the city- Mangalore to both the sides. For the long distance, i.e. from Mysore, Goa, Mumbai and Bangalore to Mangalore bus services, the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses are highly recommended because of their low fare and comfort. However, there are numerous bus services from Mangalore to all the nearby towns in Karnataka and Kerala run by both the state government transport department (KSRTC) and numerous private companies, which operate at a little competitive rates. Although, the buses are operated by different private companies, the bus numbering scheme is unified, which is quite useful for travellers and bus drivers.

Lakshmi's 5 days trip to Mangalore

Had a great time at Mangalore. As usual Travel Triangle at its best. This is my 6th trip with Travel Triangle. Beginning till the End Travel Triangle was supportive., The trip was organised by M&M Cabs and Mr. Mahesh had co-ordinated really well with us for the trip. The driver was very good, co-operative and supportive. Couple of hotels were not so great, we had to go out to a different place for breakfast. Otherwise we had a memorable trip
