How to reach Pangong Tso lake in Ladakh

Leh to Pangong Tso via Chang La

Chang La is the third highest motorable road in the world located at an altitude of 17,590 feet. This is the most used direct route from Leh to the most beautiful Pangong Tso Lake. The best road conditions are available only from this route hence this route is mostly preferred by all. Pangong Lake can be reached in about 5 to 6 hours via this route depending upon the number of breaks.

Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via Wari La

This route via Wari La is the most difficult one. The total distance traveled will be approximately 250 KMs. It will take around 10 to 12 hours to complete the journey depending upon the breaks taken. Due to the long distance, start early to reach Pangong Lake on time.

This route takes around 175 KMs to reach Pangong Lake. This route can be covered in 5 to 6 hours. This route is shorter than Wari La but is riskier. The path has broken dirt road and a landslide is very common in this road. Sometimes if the water level increases in Shylok River, it will overflow in the road. So the regular tourists do not prefer this path.

This is the route for those who need a path that doesn’t take them back to Leh but it is the longest route. Total distance covered in this route will come to around 250 KMs. It can take over 12-14 hours travel time due to the bad road and long distance.

How to reach Pangong Tso Lake from Delhi?

One can travel to Pangong Tso Lake from Delhi in four ways namely flight, car, bus and train. There are several direct flights available from Delhi which can take around 1 hour to reach Pangong Lake. Travelling by bus or car enables awesome sight-seeing during the travel. By train, it takes approximately 25 hours to reach Pangong Lake from Delhi.
