Food and Culture:

A great bowl of Poha served with green chillies and curry leaves can be enjoyed everywhere in Madhya Pradesh. Bhutte Ka Kees is another popular street food of Madhya Pradesh. Both of these street foods are especially popular in Indore. Dal Bafla is a mouth-watering dish which is very similar to the Dal Bati of Rajasthan. Chakki Ki Shaak, Palak Puri, Malpua, Gosht Korma, Mawa Bati, and Papad Ki Sabzi are typical foods to try in MP. Besides Seekh Kebabs, non-vegetarians can try Keema, Korma, Shammi Kebabs and other Mughlai delicacies widely available in Madhya Pradesh.

Madhya Pradesh in renowned for the Khajuraho Group of Monuments, Buddhist Monuments at Sanchi, and the Rock Shelters of Bhimbetka. The state is home to a number of tribal groups. The major folk dances of the state are Rai, Karma, Saila, Matki, Gangaur, Badhai, Baredi, Naurata, Ahiri and Bhagoria.

Climate:

Due to its location in Central India, the weather of Madhya Pradesh is hot in summers. While October through March remains the busy tourism season in MP, the summer season is ideal to explore national parks and hill stations in MP. Places like Indore, Bhopal, Khajuraho, Sanchi, and Kanha National Park are best visited in the peak season of winter.

Language:

The official language of Madhya Pradesh is Hindi. Also, Marathi is widely spoken by a substantial number of the local population. There are also various regional dialects such as Malvi in Malwa, Nimadi in Nimar, Bundeli in Bundelkhand. The indigenous tribal groups also speak their native tongue. Travellers with a knowledge of Hindi will not have any problem interacting with the locals in MP.

Festivals:

The colourful state of MP celebrates a lot of fairs and festivals by communities of different faith. Ujjain Kumbh Mela is held once every 12 years along the banks of the Kshipra River. Held annually at the temple grounds in the winter season, Khajuraho Dance Festival is a manifestation of India's classical dance and music forms. Organized in the last week of the year, Pachmarhi Utsav is like a carnival of cultural programmes, comedy shows, and folk dances. Ameer Khan Festival, Tansen Music Festival, Dhrupad Samaroh, and Rashtriya Hindi Natya Samaroh celebrate the local talents in poetry, music, and theatre. Lokrang Samaroh, Malwa Utsav, and Akhil Bhartiya Kalidas Samaroh are other events worth attending.
