How to Reach Spots for Tasting Mauritian Rum

People from all over the world gather in Mauritius to taste authentic liquor.

Although innumerable small counters are known to serve the famous Mauritian rum, yet the charm of Rhumerie de Chamarel remains unmatchable. Apart from enlightening people with the eco-friendly processes of rum distillation, the place is also known to acknowledge them with the traditional relics of antiquity attached. Here is some information on how to reach places to relish the Mauritian rum.

Many tourists prefer starting their journey from the Rio Creole which happens to be the finest luxury hotel in Mauritius. The posh décor and sophisticated environ is also praised for spilling the brilliant flavors of rum in Mauritius. A day tour to Rio Creole often leads to the Rhumerie de Chamarel which is the largest distillery of Mauritius. The local residents facilitated with a car are advised to opt for a twenty-minute drive up to the distillery. This is also the most cost-effective mode of traveling since it incurs only a minimum fare of $1-$2 for the fuel.

The tourists might also opt for hiring a taxi on how to reach Rhumerie de Chamarel. A drive from Rio Creole takes the same average time of 20 minutes but the fares charted are sometimes unjustified. Hence, every tourist is advised to negotiate about the taxi fare before booking one.

Travelling by the roadways happen to be the only mode of transportation in the island of Mauritius, since there is no railway network for the convenience of metros or trams or trains. However, people from the nearby islands can reach Port Louis in Mauritius by ships or cruise, which is itself a home to many small rum shops.

Samata's 6 days trip to Mauritius

It was awesome holiday All days were filled with fun

Samata Mujumdar Mumbai

Naveen's 5 days trip to Mauritius

Overall a great trip, except for the following: Pickup cab was missing, there was no one with the placard at the airport. One driver even made me load the luggage and then asked me to unload it as he didn't have enough seats. No drinking water bottle provided anywhere - during meals at hotel, transfer cabs and during the tours. Most tours end at 4-5pm and dinner starts at 7pm only, it's important for the hotel to provide some fruits / snacks at the room for full board booking.

Aman's 6 days trip to Mauritius

Everything was mostly good. The only improvement could be to include more city time in port lois. We lot very less time to explore the main city market and do shopping. Also we got very limited time at Waterfront in port lois. We hoped to see sunset there but travel agent wanted to wrap by 4pm and leave early.
