About Netherlands Tourism

The Netherlands, sometimes also known as Holland is located near mostly in Northwestern Europe. It borders Germany on the east and Belgium on the South. It is a densely populated country with over 17 million people living in an area of just 41,543 km square. The word Netherland is an English adaptation of the original Dutch word, Nederland which literally translates to ‘lower land.’ It is quite an apt name because it is a very low-lying country, most of it being flat, or even below sea level.

It is a very popular tourist destination, especially for younger people, due to its extremely tolerant attitude. Many things that are frowned upon in other places are rather common in the Netherlands. There are many beautiful lakes, canals, and ponds in this beautiful country. There are also many functional windmills, which are a special feature of the place.

Why is the Netherlands famous?

Netherland, a small country has some beautiful gems tucked away in its low-lying lands. Remember the wallpapers with millions of Tulips blooming in a field? There is a very good chance that it is from the Netherlands. Apart from these beautiful blooms, Netherland is also honored as the home of the much-loved Gouda cheese. The very popular beer, Heineken is also a Dutch brand.

The capital of Netherland, Amsterdam is known far and wide for its tolerance towards soft drugs like Marijuana. Many people, especially youngsters throng here to enjoy the liberal mindset of the city. The excellent and vibrant nightlife is also the main reason for people to visit the Netherlands.

Weather in the Netherlands:

The most popular time for a vacation in Netherland is during the summer months, that stretch from June to August. The country experiences mild summers, with an average temperature of around 17 to 18 degrees Celsius. This is the perfect time if one wishes to take a leisurely walk along the streets and enjoy the views. However, if you wish to avoid crowds and have a more laid-back holiday, winter is more favorable. There is not much tourist activity during this time, and the prices also fall, so it is much cheaper.

Language and Culture of the Netherlands:

The culture, language, and people of this country are called Dutch. Besides the official language, Dutch, Frisian is spoken in the northern province of Friesland. However, German, French, and English are also widely spoken in the country. Famed for its crafts and paintings, the cultural life of the city is quite lively and varied.

Best Foods in the Netherlands:

On an excursion to the Netherlands, here is an opportunity to gorge on some delicious Dutch cuisines, like: pancakes, pastries, speculaas, poffertjes, licorice, hagelslag, and much more.

Major Attractions in the Netherlands:

There are many interesting places you can visit in the Netherlands. These include some amazing tours that take you to many beautiful places like the windmills, or to various pubs where you can have to enjoy some Heineken. The Netherlands also has many historically significant places and boasts of some amazing natural beauty as well. Some of the popular tourist destinations that can be included in the Netherlands travel itinerary are listed below:

Anne Frank House: This biographical museum is situated in Central Amsterdam. It is dedicated to the popular diarist Anne Frank who wrote about the horrors of World War II and the reign of Adolf Hitler. Anne Frank hid from Nazi persecution in the rear end of this house. In 1957, Anne Frank Foundation was started to save this building from demolition. It has preserved the hiding space and had an exhibit about all forms of persecution. It is the third most popular museum in the Netherlands.

Rijksmuseum:  Another treat for history buffs, Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam houses various Dutch art and historical objects from the middle ages and beyond. It is a haven for art enthusiasts and people with an immense love for history. If you want to know more about Dutch history, this is the place to be.

Leiden: A picturesque city with canals lined with trees and windmills. You can find numerous quaint wooden bridges, lush green parks, and windmills all over this city. You can also find numerous museums dedicated to windmills and Egyptian antiquities. The Hortus Botanicus offers sprawling gardens and the world’s oldest academic observatory.

Haarlem: This city is unofficially known as Bloemenstad, or ‘Flower City.’ This needs special attention in the Netherland travel plans, as it is the center of the tulip bulb-growing district. It also hosts the Annual Bloemencorso Parade. You can find some amazing medieval architecture in this city.

Van Gogh Museum: This museum in the City of Amsterdam houses various works of the extremely popular Dutch Artist Vincent van Gogh and his contemporaries. It is a true paradise for art lovers from all over the world.
