Why this Shimla and Kufri itinerary

This is the budget, decision-ready version of the classic Shimla circuit. Where a lot of 3-day Himachal listings quietly stretch to Manali and back, a drive that does not honestly fit three days from Delhi, this one stays realistic: two full days built around Shimla and Kufri, at Rs 9,500 a head. You still get the parts of Shimla people actually remember. Scandal Point, where the old tale of an eloping royal gave the corner its name. The 1887 Gaiety Theatre on the Mall, one of the oldest working theatres in the country. Christ Church on the Ridge, among the oldest churches in north India. Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Delhi to Shimla

Make your own way to Delhi airport or railway station, where our representative meets you and hands over your private cab to Shimla. Delhi to Shimla is roughly 350 km by road, a 7 to 8 hour drive that climbs through Chandigarh and the Shivalik foothills onto curving mountain roads lined with pine and deodar. On arrival in Shimla you check in to the hotel, settle into your room and take some time to unwind after the journey. If there is daylight left, the Mall Road and the Ridge are a short walk or drive away for a first, easy evening stroll. Dinner is at the hotel, followed by an overnight stay in Shimla.

Day 2: Shimla sightseeing

After breakfast, set out for a full day of local sightseeing across Shimla's best-known spots. Start at Jakhu Temple, perched at about 2,455 m on the city's highest hill, where a 33 m Hanuman statue rises above the deodars and the whole town opens up below. Head down to the Ridge, the wide open promenade the British built for their evening walks, and the adjoining wooden market for souvenirs. Walk to the Gaiety Theatre, still famous for its plays, and past the old Grindlays Bank building, named for its founder Robert Melville Grindlay. Round off at Scandal Point and the Mall, the main shopping stretch, before returning to the hotel for dinner and an overnight stay.

Day 3: Kufri and departure

Enjoy an unhurried breakfast, pack up and check out, then drive to Kufri, about 20 km from Shimla at roughly 2,720 m. The road passes through the thick woodland locals call Green Valley on the way up. Kufri is the adventure and views stop of the trip: a pony or yak ride to a viewpoint over the endless Himalayan skyline, the Himalayan Nature Park, and simple options like Apple Point and Mahasu Peak. After lunch and a last look at the ranges, your cab begins the drive back to Delhi. Note that this is a long return leg, so an early start from Kufri keeps the evening comfortable. Your tour ends in Delhi.

Best time to visit Shimla and Kufri

Shimla and Kufri work almost year-round, but the trip changes with the season. March to June is peak: clear days, roughly 15 to 25 degrees Celsius, ideal for sightseeing and the Kufri slopes. July to early September brings the monsoon, greener but with the odd landslide on the ghat roads. September to November is the quiet sweet spot, crisp and far less crowded. December to February is the snow window, when Shimla and Kufri can get fresh snowfall, cold and often near freezing, with the occasional road closure. For a first Himachal trip with family, April to June or October is the safest bet.

Can you add Manali in three days?

Not comfortably, and it is worth being honest about it. Manali is a 12 to 14 hour one-way drive from Delhi, about 530 km, so squeezing it into 2 nights 3 days means two draining overnight drives and almost no time on the ground. A Manali trip done properly needs four nights or more.
