    Surreal Dalhousie Getaway(2N/3D):Overview

From Rs 22,463 per person on twin sharing (strike Rs 24,685). Rated 4.1/5 by 368 travellers. 3 Days and 2 Nights, private cab from Pathankot, and fully customisable. You compare multiple quotes from verified local agents before you pay a rupee.

Dalhousie is a small colonial hill town spread across five wooded ridges near the Dhauladhar range, and 2 nights and 3 days is exactly enough to see it without rushing. The plan is simple. You drive up from Pathankot, spend the first afternoon on Dalhousie's own circuit of churches, springs and view points, keep the full middle day for Khajjiar and Chamba, and head back on the third morning. The transfers are private and the itinerary is yours to adjust.

Khajjiar is the reason most people pick this route. It is a wide green meadow ringed by cedar with a small lake at its centre, about 24 km on from Dalhousie, and on a clear morning it earns its "Mini Switzerland of India" tag. Pair it with the old temple town of Chamba and you have covered the two highlights of the district in a single unhurried day. This package keeps the days short and the driving shorter, which suits a couple or a family who want the hills without a punishing schedule.

    Day-by-Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrival at Pathankot and Dalhousie local sightseeing

You are received at Chakki Bank railway station in Pathankot by your agent's representative, who briefs you on the trip, and driven up to Dalhousie in a private cab. Pathankot to Dalhousie is about 83 km and takes roughly 3 hours on a climbing pine road, so you reach in time to check in and still have the afternoon free. Rather than spend it at the hotel, this is the window for Dalhousie's own sightseeing circuit, which most short itineraries skip.

Start at St. John's Church on Gandhi Chowk, an 1863 stone-and-timber chapel that is the oldest in town. From there it is a short drive to Subhash Baoli, a spring-fed rest spot under the deodars named for Subhash Chandra Bose, who is said to have spent time here. Continue to Panchpula, a set of pools and small waterfalls built around the memorial to freedom fighter Sardar Ajit Singh, about 7 km out. On the same stretch you pass Satdhara Falls, a run of seven springs whose mica-flecked water locals hold to be good for the skin. If daylight allows, the loop up to Bakrota Hills gives the town its best open view of the snow line. In the evening you are free to walk the Mall and the Gandhi Chowk market. Dinner and an overnight stay are at the hotel.

Day 2: Khajjiar via Kalatop and Dainkund, and Chamba

After breakfast you set out for the day's main loop. The first stop is Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, about 10 km from Dalhousie, a quiet deodar forest with an easy walk to the old forest rest house. Close by is Dainkund Peak, at roughly 2,745 m the highest point around Dalhousie and known as the "singing hill" for the wind through its grass; a short walk from the road leads to the Pholani Devi temple and a full Dhauladhar panorama. You then reach Khajjiar, about 24 km on, where the meadow, the central lake and the space for zorbing, paragliding and horse riding are what families come for.

In the afternoon you continue to Chamba, the old capital of the region on the banks of the Ravi. It is worth the drive for the 10th-century Laxmi Narayan temple complex, the grassy Chaugan promenade and the Bhuri Singh Museum, which holds the district's Pahari miniature paintings. You spend a couple of hours exploring the town before returning to your Dalhousie hotel for the night. Breakfast is included; dinner is at the hotel.

    Day 3: Departure

After a relaxed breakfast you check out and are driven back down to Chakki Bank railway station at Pathankot for your onward journey, timed so you are not cutting a train or flight connection fine. If you have an extra day, this package can be extended with a Dharamshala and McLeodganj leg or a longer Chamba stop; ask an agent to quote it. Breakfast is included.

    Places You Will Cover

Everything on this route sits within a short drive of Dalhousie, which is what lets 2 nights and 3 days stay unhurried. Here is what you see and when.

    How to Reach Dalhousie

Dalhousie has no railway station or airport of its own, so almost everyone routes through Pathankot, about 83 km away and roughly 3 hours by road. On this package the private transfer starts at Pathankot: a representative meets you at Chakki Bank railway station and drives you up.

    Hotels

You stay 2 nights in Dalhousie in a comfortable mid-range hotel, confirmed on availability. A typical property on this route is Mohan Palace near Gandhi Chowk on Khajjiar Road, in central Dalhousie within walking reach of the Mall, or a similar hotel of the same category. Your agent shares the exact hotel name before you pay, and you can ask to upgrade the category if you prefer.

    Price and What It Covers

This package starts at Rs 22,463 per person on twin sharing, down from Rs 24,685, and it is fully customisable. It reads higher than the bare land-only rates you see on aggregator listings for one reason: this is a private, transport-inclusive package. The fare covers your 2-night Dalhousie stay with breakfast and dinner, a private chauffeur-driven cab for the whole trip from the Pathankot pickup onward, and all the sightseeing in the itinerary, not just a hotel voucher. Lunch, adventure activities and personal spends sit outside it.

Because every trip is put together by a local agent, the final figure moves with your dates, hotel category and group size, and you see it in writing before you commit. Travelling off-season or in a larger group usually brings the per-head cost down; peak weekends in May and the December snow window push it up.

    Cancellation and Refund Policy

Because this is a customisable, agent-quoted package, the exact cancellation and refund terms are confirmed in writing on your final quote before you pay. As a general guide, cancellations made well ahead of the travel date attract a smaller charge than last-minute ones, and any hotel or transport deposits already paid on your behalf may be non-refundable. Ask your agent for the exact slab that applies to your dates before booking, and keep it with your confirmation.

    Booking This Trip With TravelTriangle

A tip our Himachal desk gives everyone on this route: take the morning transfer out of Pathankot so you reach Dalhousie by early afternoon. That way you finish the churches, Subhash Baoli, Panchpula and Satdhara the same day and keep all of Day 2 free for Khajjiar and Chamba, instead of splitting the sightseeing across a tired arrival evening.

The fare, the inclusions and the Pathankot pickup on this page are checked by our Dalhousie operations desk against the operator's current 2026 rate sheet.

Every package is built by a verified local agent, you compare multiple quotes before you commit, and the 368 reviews behind the rating on this page come from travellers who actually booked the trip. Support runs 24/7 while you are on the road.
