Day-by-day itinerary

Day 1: Arrival in Kochi and drive to Munnar

Your family lands at Cochin International Airport, or arrives at Ernakulam railway station, and is met by your TravelTriangle representative. From there it is about a four-hour drive up into the Western Ghats to Munnar. The road climbs through tea country and past two roadside waterfalls, Valara and Cheeyappara, both worth a photo stop and a leg-stretch for the kids. Check in to your Munnar hotel and settle in for the evening. Overnight in Munnar. No meals on arrival day.

Day 2: Munnar sightseeing

After breakfast, start early with a park-bus safari through Eravikulam National Park, home to the rare Nilgiri Tahr. The rest of the day takes in the Tata Tea Museum, where you can watch tea being made and taste a few varieties, then the Rose Garden, Photo Point, boating and a picnic at Mattupetty Dam, the views from Echo Point, and the Indo-Swiss dairy project. Day 3: Munnar to Alleppey houseboat

Check out after breakfast and drive down from the tea hills to Alleppey, watching the landscape shift from forest to canals and paddy fields. Board your private houseboat around noon for a shikara-style cruise on the Vembanad and Punnamada backwaters, drifting past villages, church spires and coconut groves. Day 4: Fort Kochi and departure

After breakfast on the houseboat, transfer by private car to Kochi. If your flight or train is later in the day, ask your driver to route through Fort Kochi: the Chinese Fishing Nets on the waterfront, St. Francis Church, the Mattancherry (Dutch) Palace, and the Paradesi Synagogue in Jew Town sit within a short drive of each other, with Marine Drive a good final stop. You are then dropped at Cochin airport or Ernakulam station to board your flight or train home. Breakfast included.
