By Air
Munnar has no airport of its own, however, the Cochin International Airport is close by. By road, it is approximately 110 kilometers away. The other nearest airport to Munnar is the Madurai International Airport. This airport is around 140 kilometers away by road. You can easily get a taxi or cab from either of the airports to Munnar and a normal taxi fare costs around Rs 3000. You will have to pay an additional premium of 15-25 per cent to account for night charges (7 PM-6 AM).
By Train
As Munnar does not have a railway station, you will have to travel to the nearest station, Aluva. This is around 110 kilometers from this city. You can also travel to Ernakulam, that is around 130 kilometers away. If you are traveling to this station, you can get down at either Ernakulam Town (North) or Ernakulam Junction (South). This is one of the major railway stations of Kerala and is considered one of the A1 graded stations in the Southern Railways.
The other closest station is Madurai which is about 135 kilometers away. These stations are all operated by the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways and falls under the arena of the Thiruvananthapuram railway division. You can always take a taxi from these stations till Munnar for around 2500 rupees. Book a pre-paid taxi or cab well in advance to avoid any hassles when you reach here.
By Road
Munnar has a well-established road network and it is easy to travel from this hill town to other parts of the state. You can board regular buses from the bus station at the main bazaar here. There are direct regular buses start from 6 am. A fun way to travel in this town is by hiring a car so that you can enjoy the beautiful views whilst breathing in the cool mountain breeze. If you drive from Munnar to Ernakulam, it will take you around 4.5 hours and if you drive from Munnar to Thekkady, it takes around 4 hours.
