The best time to visit Munnar is from October to March, when the monsoon has cleared, the air is crisp and daytime temperatures sit between 15 and 25 degrees. These are the months for uninterrupted tea-garden views, wildlife spotting and long drives to the high viewpoints. September to May stays comfortable overall, with March to May turning warmer but still cool by plains standards. Eravikulam National Park. A 97 sq km UNESCO-listed park that protects the largest surviving population of the endangered Nilgiri Tahr. Anamudi, the highest peak in South India at 2,695 m, rises within it. Come for the tahr, the shola grasslands and, in a bloom year, the Neelakurinji.

Top Station and Echo Point. Top Station, the highest point on the old Munnar to Kodaikanal road, looks out over the Tamil Nadu valleys and is a classic sunrise spot. On the way, Echo Point and Kundala Lake offer a shikara ride and the echo that gives the point its name.

Kolukkumalai and Devikulam. Kolukkumalai, reached by jeep, is among the highest tea estates in the world and famous for its sunrise. How to Reach Munnar

By air. The nearest airport is Cochin International (COK), about 110 km away, or roughly a four-hour drive. It has daily domestic and international flights, and taxis run to Munnar from the terminal. Coimbatore (about 160 km) and Madurai (about 160 km) are the next closest airports.

By train. There is no railway station in Munnar itself. The nearest major railheads are Aluva (about 110 km) and Ernakulam Junction (about 125 km), both well connected to the rest of India. From either, hire a taxi or take a bus up to Munnar.

By road. Munnar is an easy drive from Kochi (about 130 km via NH 85, three and a half to four and a half hours) on well-maintained ghat roads. Munnar's kitchens lean on Kerala classics with a hill twist.
