Trivandrum to Kashmir Trip(4N/5D): Overview
This Kashmir tour package from Trivandrum is a 4 nights, 5 days trip planned for travellers flying in from Kerala, with all four nights on a houseboat on Srinagar's Dal or Nigeen Lake. From that one base you take full-day trips to Pahalgam and the Lidder valley, to Gulmarg and its Gondola, and to Sonmarg below Thajiwas Glacier, so nobody repacks a suitcase after the long journey north. Day 1 is kept light on purpose, because the trip from Trivandrum is a one-stop flight and you want to end it on a sunset shikara, not a sightseeing marathon. Breakfast and dinner, airport transfers and a cab for every day trip are included, and the price is Rs 23,500 per person on twin sharing as a land package from Srinagar.
Trivandrum has no non-stop flight to Srinagar. Most travellers take an early one-stop flight through Bengaluru or Delhi and land in Srinagar by mid-afternoon, and the agents who quote for this trip can add those flights so you see one all-in price. The route, train options and costs are set out below, so you can plan the whole Trivandrum to Kashmir trip from this page. Looking for other durations or departure cities? Compare all Kashmir tour packages, or see every holiday that starts from home on our tour packages from Trivandrum page.
TravelTriangle's Kashmir packages are rated 4.2/5 across 733 traveller reviews. 14,111+ travellers have planned a Kashmir trip with us through 650+ verified agents. Every day of this itinerary is customisable, you compare quotes from up to 3 agents before you pay, and you can pay in easy installments. Starting price: Rs 23,500 per person on twin sharing (was Rs 25,824), land only from Srinagar. Hotel cost may vary with your dates, so submit your details for the best rates.

How to Reach Srinagar from Trivandrum: Flights and Trains
Fly. Trivandrum International Airport has no non-stop service to Srinagar, so you change planes once, usually in Bengaluru or Delhi. Bengaluru has the most connections, at around 7.5 to 8.5 hours door to door. Through Delhi it runs closer to 8 to 10.5 hours. Pick a departure from Trivandrum before 7 am and you land at Srinagar International Airport by early afternoon, which is when this package's Day 1 begins. Your agent's driver meets you outside the arrivals hall.
| Option | Route | Total time | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1-stop flight (most popular) | TRV to Bengaluru or Delhi, then on to SXR | About 7.5 to 11 hours | Most travellers; book the earliest TRV departure |
| Via Kochi | COK to Bengaluru or Delhi, then on to SXR | Similar to TRV | Kollam, Alappuzha and central Kerala, where Kochi has more connections |
| Train, then Vande Bharat | Himsagar Express (16317) Trivandrum Central to SVDK Katra, then Katra to Srinagar by Vande Bharat | About 3 days plus a night in Katra | Budget or slow travel; add 2 days each way |
| From the Gulf | Dubai, Doha, Kuwait or Riyadh to TRV or COK, or to Delhi, then on to SXR | Depends on the connection | NRI families combining a home visit with Kashmir |
By train, the weekly Himsagar Express leaves Kanyakumari on Friday afternoon, calls at Thiruvananthapuram Central around 4 pm and reaches Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra about 2 days and 20 hours later. Since June 2025 the Vande Bharat on the Udhampur to Srinagar line has run from Katra to Srinagar in about 3 hours, six days a week, so you no longer need the long road over Banihal. Stay a night in Katra, then take the next morning's train. Confirm timings on IRCTC before you book, because the Himsagar's day can change with the season.
On the way home, book your Srinagar departure after 1 pm. Srinagar airport has a security check at the outer gate before the terminal, and queues build in peak season, so leave the houseboat three hours before take-off. For every other way into the valley, read our guide on how to reach Kashmir.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Srinagar from Trivandrum and a Shikara Ride
Your agent's driver meets you outside Srinagar airport and takes you to the houseboat. An early flight from Trivandrum usually lands in the early afternoon, and in December the light goes by about 5:30 pm, so today is short on purpose. Drop your bags, have a cup of kahwa and rest, and by about 4 pm you are in a shikara for the included 1 to 2 hour ride past the floating gardens and lotus beds, and the sun goes down while you are on the water. Dinner and the night are on the houseboat. If you take an overnight connection that lands before noon, the driver can first take you to the Mughal gardens: Nishat Bagh, whose twelve terraces run straight down to the water with the Zabarwan Mountains behind, Shalimar Bagh, the garden Jahangir built for Noor Jahan, and Chashme Shahi. Pari Mahal and the Shankaracharya Temple hill fit on Day 5 if your flight home leaves after 2 pm.
Travelling between late March and mid April? Make your garden stop, on Day 1 or Day 5, the Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden in the Zabarwan foothills, the largest tulip garden in Asia. It usually opens in the second half of March and blooms for about four weeks, and J&K Floriculture announces each year's dates and ticket price shortly before. In 2026 it opened on 16 March, ran 9 am to 7 pm and charged adults Rs 75 at the gate. If the festival is the main reason for your trip, the Kashmir Tulip Festival package is built around it.
Day 2: Srinagar to Pahalgam Day Trip
This is the longest day of the trip, so the cab leaves right after breakfast, by about 8 am, for Pahalgam, about two and a half hours south-east of Srinagar each way. On the way, stop at the saffron fields of Pampore, which flower purple only in late October, and at the historical Awantipora ruins of the 9th-century Avantiswami temple. Then the road follows the Lidder river through rice fields and pine forest into Pahalgam, with the Pir Panjal range behind. In town, walk along the Lidder or visit the old Mamleshwar Temple. Betaab Valley and Aru Valley lie beyond town and can be reached only in a local union taxi, paid on the spot. In winter the drive to Aru is often snowbound, and the valley floor turns white. You are back on the houseboat by dusk for dinner. Road details are in our Srinagar to Pahalgam route guide.
Optional: Betaab Valley or Aru Valley by local union taxi (a day trip from Srinagar leaves time for one of the two), pony ride along the Lidder (charges extra). Baisaran and Chandanwari were closed to tourists when this page was last checked, so they are not part of this trip. Your agent confirms which spots are open for your dates.
Distance from Srinagar to Pahalgam: 92 km (approx.). Travel time: 2 hours, 30 minutes (approx.)
Day 3: Off to the Emerald Gulmarg
After breakfast, drive west to Gulmarg, home to one of the highest golf courses in the world and India's best-known ski slopes. From Tangmarg the road climbs through apple orchards and pine. The day's big decision is the Gondola. Phase 1 climbs to Kongdoori, and Phase 2 continues to Apharwat, where snow lies for most of the year. As you glide high above, soak in the Pir Panjal Range, and if the weather is clear you can also catch sight of Nanga Parbat far to the north. From December to March the slopes are open for skiing and sledging, and ski gear can be rented near the Gondola base. Coming from Kerala without winter clothes? Coats, gloves and snow boots are hired out at Tangmarg for a small daily fee, so you do not need to buy a full set at home. Gondola tickets are sold online on the J&K Cable Car Corporation portal, so book as soon as your dates are fixed. You are back on the houseboat by evening. Current rates are on our Gulmarg Gondola fees page.
Optional: Gondola ride, pony ride, skiing and sledging (charges extra)
Distance from Srinagar to Gulmarg: 54 km (approx.). Travel time: 1 hour, 50 minutes (approx.)
Day 4: A Sonmarg Day Tour
After breakfast, follow the Sindh river north-east for the full day trip to Sonmarg. The word Sonmarg translates to meadow of gold, and in summer the meadows here fill with wildflowers below the snow peaks. The favourite outing is a pony ride up to Thajiwas Glacier, about 3 km from the main meadow, where snow lingers into summer. In winter you can try sledge riding on the slopes instead, and since the Z-Morh tunnel opened in January 2025, the road to Sonmarg stays open in most winter weeks, though fresh snowfall can still shut it for a day. If the weather allows, local taxis also run up towards Zojila for a look at Zero Point, at extra cost. You are back on the houseboat for dinner.
Optional: Pony ride to Thajiwas Glacier, sledge riding, local taxi towards Zero Point (charges extra)
Distance from Srinagar to Sonmarg: 80 km (approx.). Travel time: 2 hours, 20 minutes (approx.)
Day 5: Departure from Srinagar
Breakfast is on the houseboat before you check out. With a flight after 2 pm there is time for one morning stop. Pick the Shankaracharya Temple hill for the view over the Dal, the terraces of Nishat Bagh or Pari Mahal if you missed the gardens on Day 1, or Lal Chowk and the Polo View market for pashmina, dry fruits or a tin of Pampore saffron to carry home. Get transferred to Srinagar airport about three hours before your flight, because of the security check at the outer gate. Most travellers connect through Bengaluru or Delhi and are back in Trivandrum the same night. If you want an easier day, ask the agents to quote a flight that leaves Srinagar around 1 pm.

Total Cost of a Kashmir Trip from Trivandrum
Plan on about Rs 50,500 to Rs 71,500 per person for the whole trip, flights included. On this Kashmir tour package from Trivandrum, the land package is the fixed part. Flights move the total most, so the month you travel matters more than anything else.
| Cost item | Per person | Couple (twin sharing) |
|---|---|---|
| This package (4N/5D, land) | Rs 23,500 | Rs 47,000 |
| Return 1-stop flight, TRV to SXR | Rs 23,000 to Rs 40,000 | Rs 46,000 to Rs 80,000 |

| Estimated total | Rs 50,500 to Rs 71,500 | Rs 1,01,000 to Rs 1,43,000 |
Fares are lowest from October to November and highest around Christmas, New Year and the Kerala summer holidays in May. Lunch runs to about Rs 300 to Rs 600 per person a day in Srinagar's dhabas and cafes.
Best Time for a Kashmir Trip from Trivandrum
April and May suit most families from Kerala. The school vacation lines up, every valley road is open, and Srinagar days sit around 15°C to 25°C while home is at its most humid. For snow, go between December and February instead.
| Months | What you see in Kashmir | How it fits a Kerala calendar |
|---|---|---|
| Dec to Feb | Snow in Gulmarg and Sonmarg, skiing, a frozen edge on the Dal | Christmas and New Year break; pack proper winter wear |
| Late Mar to mid Apr | Tulip Garden in bloom, almond blossom | Post-exam break |
| Apr to May | Green valleys, all roads open, 15°C to 25°C | Kerala school vacation; the busiest and costliest weeks |
| Jun to Aug | Lush meadows, pleasant days | Monsoon at home; Amarnath Yatra traffic can reroute Pahalgam days |
| Sep to Nov | Chinar trees turn red and gold, fewer crowds | Onam and Puja holidays; best fares from Trivandrum |
Coming from 30°C at home, even an April evening on the lake feels cold, so carry a warm jacket in any month. For the month-by-month weather across the valley, see our best time to visit Kashmir guide, and if snow is the goal, our snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir guide tracks when it usually arrives.
Why Trivandrum Travellers Choose This Package
One base, no repacking. After a long travel day from Trivandrum, four nights in the same houseboat means you unpack once and the cab comes to you each morning. Every day trip is a there-and-back from the Dal, so a tired parent or a sleepy child can always skip a stop and rest on board.
The quote is shaped around your trip. Tell the agents you are flying from Trivandrum or Kochi and they can add flights, push Day 1 back if you land late, and arrange vegetarian dinners or rice with every meal on the houseboat. You compare up to 3 quotes and pay in installments, and nothing is final until you accept one.

Payment Policy
You pay a booking amount to confirm the trip and the rest in easy installments, as guided by your travel agent. Before you pay anything, you see quotes from up to 3 verified agents and can change the stay, the vehicle or add flights.
