About This Bir Billing Package From Delhi

Bir Billing is the paragliding capital of India, and this 4 day trip is the easy way to reach it from Delhi. You board an overnight Volvo, wake up in the Kangra valley, and spend three unhurried days between Dharamshala and Bir. Most operators on this route sell a single tandem flight and a night in a tent. This is a curated multi-day holiday instead, with hotel stays, meals, a sightseeing cab and verified local agents, so first-time flyers and families get the mountain without the logistics.

Bir is a small Tibetan settlement of monasteries, tea gardens and cafes; Billing, about 14 km uphill, is the launch meadow that pilots come to from all over the world. You get both on this trip: the calm of Bir and the adrenaline of Billing.

Every day of this itinerary can be customised, and the package can start from any city. For the full range of Himachal holidays that leave from the capital, see our Delhi to Himachal tour packages.

    Paragliding At India's Flying Capital

This is the reason people come to Bir Billing. Tandem flights take off from the Billing meadow at roughly 2,400 m (about 8,000 ft) and glide down to the landing field at Bir, a drop of nearly 900 m. You fly strapped to a certified pilot, so no experience is needed. A standard tandem lasts 15 to 30 minutes depending on the wind, and most pilots carry a GoPro so you leave with the whole flight on video.

Flying runs in two seasons: the clear, stable post-monsoon window of October and November, and the spring-to-early-summer window of March to June. During the monsoon (July to September) flights are largely suspended for safety. Paragliding charges are over and above the package price and are booked through your trip coordinator, so you fly with vetted operators rather than whoever is touting slots at the take-off.

Want the full flyer's guide, tips on picking a pilot and what a flight actually feels like? Read our guide to paragliding in Bir Billing.

    Trip Highlights

•Tandem paragliding off the Billing meadow, one of the highest take-off sites in the world.

•An overnight Volvo run from Delhi, so the travel happens while you sleep and no day is wasted.

•Three nights based in Dharamshala, with a full excursion day down to Bir and Billing.

•Tibetan Bir: Sherab Ling and Chokling monasteries, the Deer Park Institute, and fresh tea from the Bir tea gardens.

•Kangra-valley sightseeing by private cab, breakfast and dinner included every day.

    Your 4-Day Itinerary

Day 1 | Delhi to Dharamshala, overnight Volvo

Your trip begins at the Delhi bus stand in the evening. Board your Volvo coach and settle in for the overnight run up to the Kangra valley, roughly 12 to 13 hours by road. You sleep on the bus and cross into the hills by dawn, so the first morning of the holiday is already in the mountains.

Day 2 | Arrive Dharamshala, check in and explore

Reach Dharamshala in the morning and check in to your hotel. Rest after the overnight journey, have a meal, then head out on your own time. Walk the McLeod Ganj and Dharamshala markets for Tibetan handicrafts, prayer flags, thangka paintings and woollens, and stop for coffee in one of the little cafes. Dinner is at the hotel. This is a deliberately light day so you are fresh for the excursion tomorrow.

Day 3 | Excursion to Bir Billing

After breakfast you drive down to Bir Billing, the highlight of the trip. If you have booked a flight and the winds are good, this is your paragliding day: you head up to the Billing take-off, fly tandem over the valley, and land at the Bir field. On the ground, Bir rewards a slow afternoon. Visit the Sherab Ling and Chokling monasteries, look in at the Deer Park Institute, and taste single-estate tea straight from the Bir tea gardens. You return to Dharamshala for the night.

Day 4 | Bir morning, then depart for Delhi

Your last morning is yours. Have breakfast, and if there is time before check-out, take a short walk around the pine-and-tea landscape that makes Bir so photogenic, or catch a second flight window if the weather held you back on Day 3. Check out from the hotel and transfer to the Volvo stand for the return coach to Delhi. You reach the city by the following morning, with a phone full of flight footage and mountain air still in your system.

Best Time To Visit Bir Billing (And When To Fly)

Bir Billing is a year-round hill escape, but the flying seasons are specific. October and November are the prime window: the monsoon has cleared, the air is stable and the views over the Dhauladhar range are at their sharpest. March to June is the second flying window, warm and long-dayed, and the busiest with pilots.

Through the monsoon (July to September) the valley is green and dramatic but tandem flights are largely grounded for safety, so time your trip for the flying months if the glide is your reason to go. Winter (December to February) is cold and can bring snow to the higher meadows, with limited flying and the odd road blockage, but a quiet, pretty Bir for those who just want the tea and the monasteries.

How To Reach Bir Billing From Delhi

There is no direct train or flight from Delhi to Bir Billing, which is exactly why an overnight coach is the sensible way in, and what this package uses.

•By road (our package): an overnight Volvo from Delhi covers the roughly 520 km to the Kangra valley in about 12 to 13 hours. You sleep through the drive and start the next day in the hills.

•By rail: the nearest broad-gauge railhead is Pathankot, about 3 to 4 hours from Bir by road; the narrow-gauge Kangra Valley toy train runs closer but is slow.

•By air: the nearest airport is Gaggal (Kangra / Dharamshala), roughly 67 to 70 km from Bir, about a 2.5 to 3 hour drive.

    Hotels, Inclusions And Exclusions

You stay three nights in Dharamshala at Hotel Vakratunda (Sunset Point Road, Naddi, Dharamshala) or a similar 3-star property, on a breakfast-and-dinner plan.

    Cancellation And Refund Policy

Your exact cancellation terms are confirmed in writing on your final itinerary before you pay, so there are no surprises. As a general guide, cancellations made well ahead of departure carry the lowest charges, and the charge rises the closer you cancel to the travel date; peak flying-season dates (October to November) can carry stricter terms. Paragliding is weather-dependent, and flights called off for wind or safety are handled separately by the operator.

Why Book This Package With TravelTriangle

I have always booked my trips through MakeMyTrip, but this was my first time trying Travel Triangle. Initially, I was a bit skeptical, but taking that chance turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. My first interaction was with Samjana, who was extremely courteous and, in fact, advised m
e not to proceed with payment without checking with her. That level of responsibility and care really stood out to me. The travel agents who reached out gave very reasonable quotes. A special mention to Neesha, who was incredibly patient and helped me choose the best hotel. She also ensured that Baglamukhi Devi temple darshan was included in my itinerary, which was very important to me. Throughout the journey, the team was always just a message or call away, which gave me a lot of confidence as a solo traveler. Vikas from TravelEPedia (supervisor/manager) was also very supportive and ensured that my trip went smoothly, even during a road transport strike in Himachal. That kind of coordination during unexpected situations truly deserves appreciation. The drivers, Mr. Rahul and Mr. Vijay, were very humble, professional, and ensured I felt safe throughout. They covered all promised places and made the journey comfortable. A special shoutout to Mr. Vijay from Himalayan Mysteries — a true gentleman. He was respectful, well-mannered, and went above and beyond to ensure my two-wheeler trip was safe. He even shared the history of places along the way, which made the experience richer. On the last day, he made sure I boarded my bus safely and only left after I was settled. That level of care is rare these days. What I truly appreciated about this entire team — Travel Triangle, TravelEPedia, and Himalayan Mysteries — is that they are genuinely people-centric. When you feel safe, supported, and cared for, paying a little extra doesn’t matter. As a solo traveler, I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you for making this journey so memorable.

The hotel boasted lovely aesthetics and a truly supportive staff. However, the food selection was quite limited, and the service lagged considerably in speed. Our cab driver, while pleasant, demonstrated a lack of professionalism. At Pathankot railway station, he rushed the luggage handling, leaving
it scattered. Furthermore, his inexperience was evident when navigating to the hotel, as he mistakenly drove us to the wrong hill. I would strongly advise the agency to develop a time-sensitive itinerary that ensures all listed attractions are covered. We were disappointed to miss the sunset point. Additionally, on Day 2, our driver initially took us to an incorrect location, claiming it was the tea garden, before we eventually reached the actual tea garden after further inquiry. BhagsuNag temple.
