Day-by-day itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Manali and evening local sightseeing
A driver meets you and takes you to your hotel to check in and rest after the flight and drive up. In the afternoon you head out for the Manali local circuit: the Hadimba Devi Temple, a 16th-century cedar-wood shrine set in the Van Vihar deodar forest, then Vashisht village for its temple and natural hot-water springs. Finish on Mall Road for a walk and some shopping, or cross the river to Old Manali for a quiet cafe evening. Dinner and overnight in Manali.
Day 2: Solang Valley, and Rohtang Pass or Atal Tunnel to Sissu
After breakfast you drive up the valley. In summer, with a permit, you can reach Rohtang Pass at about 3,978 m for snow and views. When Rohtang is shut or booked out, your driver takes the Atal Tunnel instead. The 9-km tunnel drops you into Lahaul at Sissu, which now holds snow later in the year and stays open when the pass does not. On the way, Solang Valley is the spot for paragliding, a ropeway ride and, in season, snow play. Back in Manali for dinner and your overnight stay.
Day 3: Kullu valley and Naggar
Today runs down the Kullu valley. You stop at Naggar Castle, a stone-and-timber palace built around 1460 that once belonged to the rulers of Kullu and now holds an art gallery. Nearby are the Gauri Shankar and Jagatsukh temples. Day 4: Departure

Getting to Manali from Chennai
Manali has no airport of its own, so there is no direct Chennai to Manali flight. The nearest airstrip is Bhuntar near Kullu, about 50 km away, with limited and weather-dependent flights. Most couples fly Chennai to Delhi, which takes a little under 3 hours non-stop, then take an overnight Volvo or a private cab up to Manali (about 12 to 14 hours). After your arrival at Manali, you will be guided to your hotel. You can check-in the hotel by completing all the formalities. Relax in your room for a while after checking in.
