About Lavaux Vineyards In Geneva

Lavaux Vineyard terraces are protected UNESCO World Heritage sites and a 30 km stretch of vineyards on the northern shores of Lake Geneva.

This Swiss wine route from St. Saphorin to Lutry is a sight to behold and a stoppage no wine lover can shy away from. The source of the ‘Grand Crus’ in wine for Switzerland, the Lavaux wine trail is something you must taste for yourself. The 830-hectare contiguous vineyards are as spectacular as the wine it produces which benefits greatly from the local climate and geographical position. The warmth provided by the sun, mirrored by the lake and stored in the stone walls all provides the best possible conditions for the Lavaux wine. The vineyards are protected by law, and any development is barred or subject to very harsh conditions.

The history of the Lavaux vineyards can be traced back to the 11th century to the Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries. The geographical conditions give a Mediterranean flavor to the wine and evidence showing Vines being grown ever since the Roman period. Lavaux vineyards lie in the Lavaux region of the Vaud Canton I Switzerland in the district of Lavaux-Oron.
