Best Time to Visit

The Summer Rains

While the summer monsoon season lasts from June to mid-september, the rains are the highest in Bhutan across the entire region of the Himalaya. The time is great for visiting the temples and monasteries but it might not be best for trekking. People who love to relax and watch the rain falling from their windows while sipping tea will have a delightful time. If you feel a little more adventurous, then take an umbrella and stroll down the streets and explore the local life.

The Winter Clarity

The winters make up the months from December to February in Bhutan. It is the best time to visit to witness the snowy mountains and visit the western districts of Bhutan like the Paro Valley, Punakha and many others for its striking and jaw dropping beauty. It is also that time of the year when you can witness the rare black-necked cranes roosting in the lower reaches of Bhutan. The best place to spot them is Gangtey Monastery or the Bomdeling Birds Sanctuary. Dochula Tesechu is celebrated every year in December for the victory of Bhutan from Tibetan warriors.

The Autumn Rejuvenation

Autumn season begins in late September and goes on till the month of November. The beauty of the country is unparalleled in the autumn season. It offers the most surreal views of the landscape and lets you have a peek at the snow covered terrains. It is a time to sit back, relax and watch the shedding of the beautiful willow trees. Also one of the best times to visit the rice fields getting ready to be harvested. Black necked festival in Gangte is celebrated on the 12th of November. You will not be able to escape the romance in this time of the year and in such a wondrous place.

The Blossoming Spring

The best time to visit the exquisite country of Bhutan is between the months of March and May; the beautiful spring season. The valley will cast a spell on your soul with its bewitching sights. The flowers are blooming and the scenic views of the country during this time should not be missed. The lilac Jacaranda trees are in full bloom and are stunning to look in the backdrop of its beautiful surroundings. There are so many reasons to visit the country in the springtime. One of the highlights are the festival of Paro Tshechu which showcases monks performing in colorful dresses and enacting stories. 4.5/5 We booked our 7day tour from GZD Tours. Sharmila made sure we get a meticulous planned package covering all important places. She provided us good hotels(& guide) at a reasonable price. Right from our pickup at Bagdogra airport to our drop-off at the end of the trip, was done seamlessly.
Jampa Dubjur (JD) was our tour guide in this trip and Haapa Dorji was the driver accompanying us. They were kind, knowledgeable and very accommodating. They made sure we had a good time during the long drives! Following hotels were provided to us : 1. Phuentsholling : Hotel Legphel -> 2km away from the main town. The rooms were excellent, hygienic and food was pretty good too! 2. Thimphu : Hotel Takhtsang -> Located at the centre of the city, but the room was decent, however the food was good! 3. Punakha : Hotel Khurukhuru -> Located at the centre of the city. The rooms were great, hygienic and food was pretty good too! 4. Phobjika : Hotel Odiyana -> This hotel has a great view of the Phobjika valley. However, the room was pretty average. The food was pretty good(however, despite booking for a breakfast in advance. IT was over way early.) 5. Paro : Hotel Ratna Vara -> Located at the centre of the city, The rooms were excellent, hygienic and food was pretty good too! I had always heard that Bhutanese are very deep rooted to their culture and pretty genuine in keeping their tourist happy. JD, Dorji and Sharmila proved that it was true. If you’re planning for a trip to Bhutan, I would highly recommend to go with Green Zone Destination Tours! Tiger Nest hike and Hot Stone bath after a grueling hike was the best experience!

Saurabh's 8 days trip to Bhutan

My recent trip to Bhutan arranged by Red Robes Destination. It was nothing short of extraordinary. From the moment I arrived, I was struck by the country’s serene beauty and the genuine warmth of its people. The landscapes looked like they belonged in a painting. Lush valleys, snow capped peaks, and
ancient monasteries perched dramatically on cliffs. One of the highlights was visiting the iconic Tiger’s Nest Monastery. The hike itself was inspiring, offering breathtaking views along the way, and the peaceful atmosphere at the top made the effort completely worthwhile. Bhutan’s devotion to preserving its culture and environment was evident everywhere. From traditional architecture to the pristine surroundings untouched by mass tourism. The hospitality was exceptional. Whether at hotels, homestays, or local cafes, everyone I met was incredibly kind and eager to share the essence of Bhutanese life. The food was delicious too, especially the locally grown produce and comforting dishes like ema datshi. What truly set Bhutan apart was the sense of calm and authenticity. It’s a place where you can genuinely unplug, breathe deeply, and feel connected to both nature and culture. The emphasis on Gross National Happiness isn’t just a slogan, it’s something you feel throughout the journey. Overall, my trip to Bhutan was enriching, peaceful, and memorable, an experience I would highly recommend to anyone seeking beauty, culture, and a refreshing shift in perspective.

Rosina's 6 days trip to Bhutan

I recently returned from my Bhutan trip, and I would like to share my genuine appreciation for the wonderful experience. Our package covered Phuentsholing, Thimphu, Paro, and Punakha, and throughout the entire journey everything was incredibly well arranged. A special shout-out to Trip Trova and th
e entire team — Nitesh, Tashi, Guruji, and Karma — for making our trip smooth, happy, and truly memorable. Whether we were out of cash, wanted to try authentic Bhutanese food, shop at reasonable prices, or simply needed privacy to explore, every request was handled patiently and respectfully. We always felt supported without feeling restricted. A very special mention to Guruji and Tashi for prioritizing our health and comfort. Considering how challenging the roads can be in some parts of Bhutan, we feel extremely lucky to have had Guruji as our driver. He was caring, experienced, and looked after us like an elder, without ever getting into our personal space. Thank you once again for a beautiful experience and for going above and beyond to make our trip memorable.

Tips

Dressing

Make sure you dress conservatively in Bhutan since it’s a relatively conservative Bhuddist country. The traditional dress of the Bhutanese are long skirts going all the way to the ankle and long sleeves along with high necklines. Therefore, even if you are not wearing the traditional dress, try to keep your arms and legs covered at all times. Make sure you have footwear suitable for hikes in the mountainous terrain of Bhutan.

Cuisine

Bhutanemese food is known for its unique taste and deliciousness. The authentic dishes of Bhutan can be very different from Tibetian or Nepali food. The most famous Bhutanese dish is Ema datshi. The dish is made of chillies and a delicious cheese sauce. You should definitely try this traditional dish. The cheese or datshi is taken with other ingredients like potatoes (Kewa Datshi), mushrooms (Shamu Datshi) and even beef (Shakam ema datshi).

Culture

Bhutan is conservative Buddhist country and follows the Tibetan form of Mahayana Buddhism. The country’s isolationist policies has made it possible for people to preserve their religion. Your exploration of the country cannot end without falling absolutely in live with the serenity of Bhutan’s culture.

Festivals

If you love exploring different cultures and traditions, make sure to time your arrival in Bhutan with the start of a festival. There are a number of festivals celebrated in Bhutan every year. Some of the famous festivals are the paro and Thimphu Tshechu showcasing colourful dancing and beautiful aesthetic costumes that will leave you in a state of awe. Some of the other festivals that you might want to explore are the Ura Matsusake Mushroom festival or the Haa Summer Festival.

It is no wonder that the tourism to Bhutan has been constantly increasing. The unparalleled beauty topped with a unique culture has drawn the attention of many travellers. You might want peace and comfort and Bhutan tour packages from Bangalore will guide you to the best way of spending your time in this hidden gem of Southeast Asia.
