Why Kerala Is The Perfect Escape From Hyderabad

Hyderabad runs fast. Between IT parks, bazaars and the long dry heat, the days blur together. Kerala resets that. Step off the flight and the air is cooler and damp, the light is softer, and the pace drops the moment you reach the first tea estate or backwater jetty. In one trip you can wake up in the Munnar hills, spend the next night on a houseboat in Alleppey, and finish on a Kovalam beach. Few Indian destinations pack that much variety into a journey this short from Hyderabad, which is why the route stays busy through winter.

Travel Highlights Of Kerala

Kerala earns its reputation because so much sits close together. Cruise the calm Alleppey backwaters, sip fresh tea in the Munnar gardens, take an Ayurvedic treatment, walk the golden sand at Kovalam, or dig into the history and food of Fort Kochi. That mix is what makes the state work for families, couples and groups on the same trip.

How To Reach Kerala From Hyderabad

Pick the mode that matches your budget and how much time you have. Every package can be booked land-only or with flights added.

Mode Journey time Approx fare (per person) Notes
Flight About 1.5 hours Rs 6,000 to Rs 12,000 Direct to Kochi, Trivandrum and Kozhikode; fastest and most popular
Train About 20 to 24 hours Rs 600 to Rs 4,000 Sabari Express and Kerala Express; scenic and pocket-friendly
Road / bus About 1,100 km, 16 to 20 hours Rs 1,200 to Rs 2,500 (bus) Via Bengaluru and Coimbatore; overnight Volvo buses to Kochi and Trivandrum

Flying wins on time and is what most travellers choose, so many book the Hyderabad to Kerala package by flight. Trains suit those who enjoy the ride and want to spend less. A road trip is for people who like the drive itself through Bengaluru and Coimbatore.

Sample 4N/5D Kerala Itinerary From Hyderabad

This is the route most Hyderabad travellers take on a short Kerala trip. Use it as a starting point; every day can be swapped, added to or dropped.

Day Plan
Day 1 Fly Hyderabad to Kochi (about 1.5 hours). Drive up to Munnar, roughly 4 hours through the hills, and check in.
Day 2 Munnar sightseeing: tea estates and the tea museum, Eravikulam National Park, Mattupetty Dam and Echo Point.
Day 3 Drive to Thekkady. Take the Periyar Lake boat safari and a guided spice-plantation walk.
Day 4 Drive to Alleppey. Board a traditional houseboat for an overnight cruise on the backwaters with meals on board.
Day 5 Cruise back, drive to Kochi airport and fly home to Hyderabad.

Prefer beaches over hills? Swap Thekkady for Kovalam or Varkala. Add two more nights to fold in Wayanad or the northern forts.

Best Time To Visit Kerala

Kerala works year-round, but the season changes the trip. Winter, October to February, is the most popular window: cool, dry and made for sightseeing, beaches and backwaters. Monsoon, June to September, turns the state deep green and is the season for Ayurveda and low-crowd rates, though outdoor plans get wet. March to May is warm and quiet, good for budget travellers who do not mind the heat. For a first Kerala trip from Hyderabad, aim for the winter months.

Destinations Covered In Hyderabad To Kerala Tour Packages

A Kerala package from Hyderabad can string together several of these. Each one has its own character.

Munnar. A hill station in the Western Ghats wrapped in tea gardens, waterfalls and mist. The tea estates and cool air suit honeymooners, families and anyone who wants to slow down. Eravikulam National Park and Mattupetty Dam are the usual add-ons.

Alleppey. Called the Venice of the East for its backwaters and houseboats. A traditional houseboat carries you past coconut-lined canals and small villages, and a night on the water is the trip's highlight for most travellers.

Kochi. Also called Cochin, where old harbour history meets a modern city. Walk Fort Kochi for the Chinese fishing nets, the spice markets and colonial-era churches. It is the usual arrival point and a hub for art, food and shopping.

Thekkady. Home to the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary. A boat ride on Periyar Lake can turn up elephants and deer, and the spice plantations around town are worth a guided walk. A strong pick for families and wildlife lovers.

Kovalam. One of Kerala's best-known beaches, with golden sand, clear water and long sunsets. Couples walk the shore in the evening and families settle into the calmer stretches.

Varkala. A beach town set below scenic cliffs over the Arabian Sea. A cliff-top cafe watching the waves is the whole point here, and the yoga centres and relaxed pace pull in couples and solo travellers.

Wayanad. Forest and hill country with trekking trails, ancient rock-carving caves and waterfalls. Groups of friends come for the adventure, and families for the wildlife reserves.

Kumarakom. A quieter backwater base known for its bird sanctuary and lakeside resorts. Cruising the calm water while spotting birds suits honeymooners and slow-paced holidays.

Bekal. Famous for its seaside fort standing over the Arabian Sea, with wide ocean views from the ramparts. Peaceful, uncrowded and a favourite for photographers and couples.

Athirappilly & Vazhachal. Twin waterfalls often called the Niagara of India, set in thick forest and at their fullest during the monsoon.

Extended-circuit add-ons such as Vagamon, Poovar Island, Thrissur, Kannur and Kasaragod can be built in on longer trips; ask your agent to fold them into the route.

Experiences You Cannot Miss

Kerala is as much about what you do as where you go. On a package from Hyderabad, build in a few of these.

• Spend a night on a houseboat in Alleppey or Kumarakom.

• Walk the Munnar tea gardens early, before the mist lifts.

• Watch a Kathakali performance and a Kalaripayattu martial-arts show.

• Book a traditional Ayurvedic treatment for a day.

• Take a wildlife safari in Periyar or Wayanad.

• Join a village walk with toddy tasting and a cooking class.

Travel Tips For Kerala

• Dress modestly at temples, and carry a scarf or shawl.

• Learn a few Malayalam phrases; locals appreciate the effort.

• Keep cash on hand, as smaller towns do not always take cards.

• Download Google Maps offline and a cab app for city travel.

• Pack light cottons and comfortable shoes; add rain gear for the monsoon.

Firstly the hotel provided by the travel agent in athirapally was not good, the rooms were not in a good condition, old furniture and very small. The driver provided by the agent was not able to communicate properly in hindi. We had a lot of issues talking to him and understanding him, Also he had q
uarrels with other people during the trip 2-3 times. He was himself ready to show us places outside the itinerary which were known to him, may be there was commission for him. But when we asked to take us to a place other than itinerary, He said it is not in the itinerary and i cant take you there

Hrushikesh's 5 days trip to Kerala

We recently booked our Kerala trip with Pleasure India, and honestly, it was a really awesome experience. We had been exploring multiple vendors for a few days, but what really stood out was the support we received from Ms. Alia. She suggested different options, understood what we were looking for,
and helped us choose the right itinerary and stays. Her suggestions were so helpful that we decided to go ahead with Pleasure India and booked the trip on the same day. Her recommendations also helped us explore a few more places while saving around ₹8,000 to ₹10,000, which was a great plus. We also had a small issue with our room at one of the stays because we checked in late in the evening. Alia immediately stepped in, spoke with the hotel management, and helped us get the issue resolved. There are many more things I can mention, but overall, Pleasure India and especially Alia made our Kerala trip much smoother and more enjoyable. I would definitely recommend Pleasure India to anyone planning a Kerala trip.

I had a very good itinerary prepared by Mr. Mukesh Chaudhary, with many discussions on the call. His right guidance made my trip very comfortable and memorable. We covered most of the points easily and we enjoyed very well. Some stays we rated 5 star, however a few stays still not that great. Overal
l experience was good. The driver was polite and on time always.

HONEYMOON TRIP to KERALA This was the first time I booked my travel through Travel Triangle. My experience was excellent. Travel unbound is indeed a great tour operator. The itinerary was carefully thought through and well balanced. The trip represented great travel for the cost. Our booking was ea
sy, the pre-information packet was timely and thorough. Interim questions were handled promptly and thoroughly, including going out of their way to help us with some hard to get reservations. The transfers were perfect and done with well maintained sedan vehicle. Everything worked like clockwork. However, it was the genius of the itinerary, prepared with great thought and dedication by my tour operator Mamta Katoch. Special Thanks to you for making our Honeymoon Trip to Kerala a luxurious memory to cherish.

Shilajit's 5 days trip to Kerala

Very nice trip to kerala. The choice of hotels were really very nice. A 5 days kerala trip is a little hectic but overall its a beautiful destination. Cab driver was friendly and cooperative. But kerala is really vast. From one point to another takes lot of time. And also this place is costly. Some
sightseeings are overpriced. Beaumont plantation retreat - one of the best resort I've ever visited. But it would have been better if no of cottages are increased clearing up some forest area. Munnar trip was also beautiful. And last but not least the houseboat. Could have been better if a continental cuisine instead of kerala cuisine was served.

Akshay's 7 days trip to Kerala

Hotels were really good. Services of hotels were also upto the mark. Vehicle could have been better. Driver was courteous but he also took us places which were not mentioned in itinerary and chargeable and skipped many places in munnar saying closed or can't be done by this vehicle, even thought tho
se places were mentioned in itinerary. If these things are mentioned in itinerary, tourists can prepare for them well in advance. I was told by driver that real munnar can be seen only by off roading vehicle and we were stuck with jeep safari chosen by driver. We didn't know what we would miss if we opted out. I immediately tried to call agent and they tried to help but they were also not very clear what was going on the ground. Their option was that it's optional instead of clearly telling me what would I miss if I don't opt for jeep safari. Overall a great trip with good service by agent and an okay vehicle. Thanks.

Good arrangements done by Priyanki from Travel Unbounded. Munnar Hotel was 16km far off from city, which was a pain to travel in night. No eateries were around other than its own restaurant. Houseboat and its services were good. I had some issues on last day with cab arrangements due to route change
. But priyanki was available constantly to fix everything.
