Winter chills begin at this time of the year in Granada. The nights are as low as 5 degrees Celsius. The daytime is nice and bright, much more comfortable compared to the evenings that are almost chilly. The chances of rain increase during this time lowering the temperature further. This is a relatively nicer time to visit Granada with the summer traffic gone and appealing weather conditions.

Winters (November-March)

While winters are expected to be bitter in Granada, but owing to its proximity to southern Spain, it has mild winters. The temperatures in December and January are the lowest, going below 0 degrees Celcius on occasion. Places to visit

1. Alhambra

A palace and fortress complex, Alhambra is a blaring example of the Moorish culture. It was first built as a small fortress in AD 889 on remnants of Roman fortifications. It was entirely built in the mid-13th century by the Nasrid emir Mohammed ben Al-Ahmar. With Arabic poems as inscriptions, the fortress leaves you stunned when you see it first when taking the Granada holidays.

2. Generalife

A summer palace and a country estate of the Nasrid rulers, especially of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus, the Palacio de Generalife is right next to Granada. The gardens are its striking feature with an interplay of lights, making it a splendid sight.

3. Royal Chapel of Granada

A beautiful Isabelline style building, the Royal Chapel of Granada was built between 1505 and 1517. It integrated into the Grand Cathedral, its neighboring complex and is the burial place of Queen Isabella I and King Ferdinand, the Catholic Monarchs, and the Spanish Monarchs.

4. Albaicin

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Albaicin, Granada’s historic Arab headquarters have huge walls around it. The 9th century Puerta de Elvira, the principal gate of the town offers an amazing view of the surrounding walls.

5. Capilla Real

Boasting royal tombs, Capilla Real lets you delve into the grandeur of Spain. It’s a massive 47-meter-high domed chapel that is attached to the Catedral Santa María de la Encarnación. Also, the artwork here is highly impressive.
