History of Girona

Girona was for the first time inhabited by the Iberians. Later, a citadel was built here by the Romans and was called Gerunda. Finally, in 878 Wilfrid the Hairy incorporated this city into Barcelona and it was declared as the city in the 11th century by Alfonso I of Aragon.
