By Air

The nearest airport is Dehradun airport. One can arrive here and then take a local bus transportation or taxis to reach Uttarkashi.

By Train

By Bus

March to November

The best time to visit is from March to November. This is the time when most festivals happen and many people arrive for the annual pilgrimage. The most fruitful Uttarkashi trip is during this season. 

During summers the maximum temperature goes up to 30 degrees. In winters post November, the temperature starts to drop and goes below zero also.

1. Vishwanath temple

It is located on the banks of the Bhagirathi river which makes it beautiful. This is the reason why Uttarkashi is a major pilgrimage site and tourists keep increasing.

2. Maneri Dam

This is built on Bhagirathi temple and is a beautiful place surrounded by huge mountains.It is interesting to see how big a dam is built in the mountains and makes the whole place look beautiful.

3.  Dodital lake

One of the best places to visit on Uttarkashi trip is Dodital Lake. It is a beautiful freshwater lake situated at a height. It has some religious significance attached to it as well but makes a great trip for relaxing.

4. Dayara Bugyal

It is a place filled with peace and tranquillity. Ideal spot for trekking along with camping. The surrounding of this is amazing and Meadows running all over are serene.

5. Gaumukh

As known, Gaumukh glacier is the original source of river Ganga. This is a place with historical significance and many tourists visit this place for the same on the Uttarkashi tour.

Roopa's 7 days trip to Char Dham

1. The driver we got was not experienced and was trying to save on fuel all the time. 2. He received a fine for staying longer in the airport but was asking us to pay for the fine. Driver must know what time to come to the airport and pick the clients. If he gets a fine for staying in no parking zone for long time, it must NOT be put on the client. 3. He lied to us that in Rishikesh there is a taxi union and outside taxies don't run there. Hence, we must take a local tempo and they will charge us rs. 500. This is really ridiculous. Another example to show that he was trying to save on fuel. 4. When we reached Rishikesh it was very hot around 30 deg Celsius. When asked to turn on the ac, he said he cannot turn on as the average of the vehicle will come down. This is utter nonsense. 5. We then requested our tour organizer Shiv darshan tourism's Shivangi and she immediately changed the driver and vehicle. 5.a. the trip was initially plabbed to go from Badrinath to Rishikesh in one day. But the driver constantly pestered us to take a pitstop at an intermediate location, so we had to book another hotel in Rudraprayag for 1 night. He is very slow in driving. Took around 12 hrs to cover 8 hrs from uttarakashi to pipalkoti. Later, we came to know from the new driver that Badrinath to Rishikesh is very common and most tour packages are like this. No need to take break in between at all. 6. The new driver was very good. Hope we got him in the beginning itself. 7. Support from Shivangi and Shivani is really appreciated. They took care of everything throuout the trip. Badrinath temple darshan. Gangothri.

Trekking

This is one of the most loved activities in Uttarkashi especially during the snowfall. Though it is risky and it will be taken care of, it is worth the visit. The view is beautiful and alluring.

Nehru mountaineering institute

India's prime mountaineering institute is present close to Uttarkashi and you can get a glimpse of what goes in there. There is a possibility to interact with some frequent and Alpine mountaineers.

Camping

Camping at night after the trek is a very surreal experience. With snow all around you, camping and bonfire is very entertaining and a new experience to have. Making your own meals and playing a lot of games with a group unknown to you is equally fun.
