Information about Almora

For many years, Almora was ruled by the Katyuri king, Baichaldeo. Almora was not established until it remained under his possession. It was only in 1568 that the town of Almora was formed when Baichaldeo donated the larger chunk of the land of Almora to Sri Chand Tiwari, a Gujararti Brahmin Sri Chand Tiwari. Almora remained the capital of the Chand dynasty, and the cultural capital of Kumaon until then. The culture, food and festivals were inspired by the Kumaon style in the lifestyle of the people. History of Almora can be easily discovered in its ancient monuments, temples and museums which have protected the heritage since a long time. One of the famous historical places include Govind Ballabh Pant Museum which displays a huge stack of artefacts, paintings, sculptures and weapons that date back to the 2nd Century AD. There are two famous temples Nanda Devi temple and Kasar Devi temple, dedicated to the mountain goddesses.

Almora is easily accessible by road, rail and air. Once you reach Almora, take the road route for sightseeing. Head to the famous Nana Devi temple and marvel at the imposing architecture of the temple. After that, visit the Kasar Devi temple which is seated on a hill top and offers stunning views of the Hawabagh Highway. Plan the evening time for exploring the markets and local town of Almora. Famous & local food of Almora

Almora offers a platter of delicious dishes that you must try at least once. The local dishes of Almora are also the authentic ones of Uttarakhand. A whole lot of effort goes into making these exclusive dishes. Some of the must-try dishes in Almora include Bal Mithai, famous sweet of Almora made out of diary, Choklate which is a fudge-like sweet dish made up of condensed milk and Singauri which is again a dairy product wrapped around a Malu leaf. Some of the other local dishes to try in Almora are Bhang Ki Khatai, Kappa (a green curry), mixed dal salad, Sisunak Saag, Aloo ke Gutke, Aloo Dal Pakora and Rus.

For those hippie travellers especially, stop by the tiny café run by Baba and Uma. Chef’s specialty here includes the Apple crumble cake and Lemon nana.

It was good experience. However few things should have been cleared in the quotation. They have added lal tibba in the itinerary where there cab doesn't go. They asked us to visit other places instead of lal tibba. We visited lal tibba by walk as it was only 1 km from the other places. When we visi

ted the other places via cab, lal tibba was in our way. What was the point of saying that we dont go there?? What i have understood is that they themselves not aware of the route. There was lack of clarity about th places. Otherwise overall experience was fine Everything except clarity for one of the place.

La Nivasa hotel was very nice and the food, hospitality of the staff was very friendly. Specail thanks to Deepak who worked in La Nivasa for taking care of our request. The Cab driver experience was okay and could be improved. The driving partner ask for extra cash if they need to wait after 6 p.m.

, this was never communicated before the trip and they do create a scene out of it. Last time when I visited Manali faced similar issue and this time in Nainital was not so different experience.
